Guest Anonymous
will a 3" inlet-oulet straight through race muffler on a turbo pass emissions in California(in other words do they go by the type of muffler or the decibel level?)...just curious, as I may be relocating there in the future and need to know what changes will have to be made for my car to pass emissions...I have already found a decently priced 3" catalytic(currently running no cat) and so that is covered...I may need to change the EGR out as it is sticking a bit...other than that, and the fact that the AIV isn't hooked up, I can't think of anything that would keep me from passing emissions there...any ideas? BTW, the car is an 87 300ZX Turbo GLL...
johnc
I don't think they really check noise at smog inspections. The exhaust system from the cat back is pretty much open in CA.
DavyZ
JohnBoy, John Coffey is right in saying from the cat back, the smog laws really don't matter. What does matter is your local noise ordinance, whatever it is. Usually, unless a car is obnoxiously loud, the police will leave it alone. Even where I live, there are restrictions about loud car stereo music because the public has become very annoyed at the current trend, but I've rarely seen the cops ticket for it. Guest Anonymous
Cool, I'm from semi-backwoods northern california where the cops really don't care...just didn't want a hassle if I went back and wanted to get it smogged...
Guest Anonymous
Yeah no problem on the muffler. Cops around here seem to pull over kids more often because of the stereo's and just for something to do apparently, my nephew has been pulled over 7 times in his CRX and only ticketed once and strangely enough he doesn't have or want a elephant fart muffler! I think they get pulled over alot also because of incidence of Honda thefts which are quite plentiful around here I guess. Actually I'd think a turbo with a cat would already muffle it quite a bit wouldn't it before it even got to the muffler? Guest Anonymous
Only reason I'd steal a honda is so I could take a sledgehammer to it...and in regards to what you guys said before about cat back...my system is 3" from the turbo back with an aftermarket downpipe as well...will I get hit for this during emissions? Guest Anonymous
As long as the cat is hooked up I doubt they'd bother you. As long as the downpipe looks relatively stock (except for the size) I doubt they'd even notice it. IMHO. Regards, Lone
