LS3 Engines

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone new to the forum, happy to be here. Currently I have been just lurking and searching through the forum, which is why I I don't really want to ask this question just in case the answer is in previous posts. Since looking around for prices on engine I have found a few sites that have the engine brand new for a good price:

GM Performance Parts has the best price so far at $6400,

https://store.gmperformanceparts.com/store/SelectProd.do?prodId=7714&redir=true&manufacturer=GM&category=Engines&name=LS376/480%20EFI%20LS3%20Gen%20IV%20V-8%20&model=

I found a site Amer Speed that doesn't have the exact engine but some very similar:

355/470 for $6000

355/495 for $6300

http://www.amerspeed.com/cgi-bin/showengines.cgi?EngineTypeID=2

One last site James Rivard Parts has a LS376/480 for $6500

http://www.jrgmparts.com/GM_Performance_Parts/GM_Parts_Catalog/GM_Crate_Engines/LS_Series_GM_Crate_Engines/LS_Series_LS376_480L_19171224_/ls_series_ls376_480l_19171224_.html

I was wondering if the one if Amer Speed is in fact correct because I haven't seen any other engine with specs similar to it. I am leaning more towards the GM Performance Parts site, because it is GM and they would probably be easier to deal with locally.

Sorry forgot to mention Precision that has a Chevy SS 454 with 450/470 for $3300

Those motors actually aren't similar at all, the 355 is based on the small block, the LS3 a is 6.2 liter with an Aluminum block.........Apples to oranges. The 355 you mention is not even a roller motor..The only similarity I see is the HP figure and you can bet that the LS3 has MUCH better driveability and better torque across the board.

Thank you.

Yup...

Whenever you see these motors advertised, ask for the dyno sheet. This will tell the real story. These type places are notorius for advertising high HP, but peak HP means nothing if the powerband is peaky....Torque across the board is the name of the game and the LS3 is a beast in that dep't....
