Dual Exhaust/Flow Master Installation?

Guest zfan

Recommended Posts

Im currently running dual 2 1/4" exhaust with 24 inch long glass packs that do not sound good! Im looking at installing dual flowmasters 18 x 9 and 4 to 4 1/2 tall.

Has anyone else had this install done, one shop said no way not enough clearence underneath. They will not fit in the back stock area. Too little room. Do not want to raise car for obvious reasons.

I could possibly run exhaust pipe further back before connecting mufflers and maybe gain a little clearence.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Mike, are you totally set on using Flowmaster's? The reason I ask is this: you can fit two mufflers in back, but they have to be smaller. I have a BIG single Dynomax that is close to 4 1/2" thick, and I'm sure that two of those just can't squeeze into that space. The JTR book suggests using two small turbo mufflers. Pete Paraska's site has some of the most detailed info on using a dual system that pushes the limit on what (almost) fits.

But, depending on what limits you want to go to in order to make it fit, there is the possibility of using a racing fuel cell, which gives you greater room for an exhaust on either side. You could also massage or cut away the spare tirewell and "make" some room. Hope this helps.

Check out Pete's page (in the links area I believe) he shows the routing of two turbo mufflers in the back area, its possible, but you will need to notch and fill in part of the spare tire carrier to get the second muffler in there, they're put side by side where the current stock one lies. I think a 18" case will fit I got a single in there longer than that one.

Mike, I called Spintech, and had them make me a single muffler with dual 2 1/2 in and out that's 16 X 9 1/2 X 3 tall. It fits under the car before the diff. Then I have dual pipes on either side of the gas tank (gas tank was centered), to resonator tips. This isn't installed yet, but will fit. Call them at 1-888-550-SPIN and talk to Ron. Or go to: www.spintechmufflers.com

Thanks Mike I'll give them a call today. Probably pretty pricey I would guess, but hey anything for my little baby!

Thanks to all for suggestions! Mike icon_razz.gif

Mike KZ, Thanks for the info re: Spintech. Called Ron at Spintech and he set me up with a sweet set of custom made mufflers 2 and 3/4 inches tall and 9 wide by 16 long.

I was dead on re: earlier quote, not cheap 120 each!!!

Only live life once so what the heck.

Thanks again. Zfan..Mike icon_biggrin.gif

Well got my Spintech mufflers in today. Just finished getting them mounted, no more crappy glasspacks. They are 19x9x2 1/2" and fit better than 3 1/2" glasspacks. Boy do they sound good too, better for 120 a peice.

They have a wide variety of sizes but what I like best is they fit in the same spot as exhaust pipe no lower. I had them mounted underneath. They make very low profile mufflers for cars with minimum clearance.

Oh well just wanted to share the news.

Thanks again for all your guys help!!
