Challenger Posted June 22, 2009 Share Posted June 22, 2009 I have yet to try it on my hobart but from what Ive read here you can do it with different wire, gun and gas. BQR280Z Posted June 22, 2009 Share Posted June 22, 2009 Yes you can weld aluminum just fine with your Miller 185. Add a Miller spool gun kit and a tank of argon and you are good to go. The soft aluminum wire will not push through the standard wire feed hand torch. The spool gun only pushes 4" or so and works fine for up to .25 alum. randy 77zt Posted June 23, 2009 Share Posted June 23, 2009 i tried installing a new liner and running aluminum wire in my mig(thermalarc 180) the wire wont pass through the liner-it bunches up at the drive motor.i used a spool gun in a welding class i took.it was pretty easy.
