How does the blower and ac unit keep from sucking fumes from inside the engine or exhaust fumes from outside. Aaron D Posted June 23, 2009 Share Posted June 23, 2009 Simple. It doesn't. It usually pulls air from an outside vent area like the cowl between the hood and windshield. Some newer cars have filtration systems. If you're following someone with a rich or oily exhaust, you'll suck it up, or if you're idling and the wind blows just right, your own.
