New guy here with ls1 z32 swap questions...

Hey all, i am a regular at many other Z forums, and I considering a ls1 swap into my z32 TT

 

I have one or two questions though:

 

Does anyone make adapter plates to run the stock z32 transmission(manual)?? Has anyone ever done it? or does everyone just use the t56 or auto that came with the ls1...

 

I think that I have a lot of the rest figured out, but I needed to know this before I purchase any parts...

Using the Z32 5 speed could be a possibility with the starter on the tranny, only problem with that is the if the trans is left in the stock location, the LSx will NOT fit under the hood! Puts the TB through the hood, radiator in front of the radiator core supports and the engine really far forward in the engine bay. The VG30DE is a very short engine when measuring front to back!

 

If you plan to move the trans back to situate the engine nicer in the car and under the hood, you will be cutting the firewall! At that, then its just MUCH easier to use the T-56 as it already bolts up, clutches and flywheels are readily available etc.

Ah, yes, I forgot about that....

 

see, the thing is, I was hoping to keep my OK Giken triple disc setup if possible, as it costs 3500$ to replace....

 

but I guess if it makes more sense, I may as well just use something more designed for the ls1.

BRAAP is right though, the LS1 would have to be about 4and1/2 inches in front of the firewall if you tried to keep the Nissan transmission. that would throw off all kinds of geometry. unfortunately it looks like you'll have to try to sell your Giken setup.

 

glad to see someone else doing this frankenstein though. keep us posted, lots of pictures.

Here is a thread I've been putting together that should help some but it is more for an LT1 but the same swap principles apply and there are good links to other threads and good information that would pertain. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=150821

 

Also check out my build thread, click the link in my Sig for some good pictures and basic tips.

 

I wouldn't waste your time trying to use the Z32 transmission (not bad mouthing the Z32 tranny since that wouldn't be nice and I wouldn't want to upset die hard Z32 guys... lol) especially since the T56 will be a lot more fun and its more upgrade friendly too.
