Looking for caliper bracket...

Recommended Posts

Well the other day I went to change out the pads on my front brakes last week and when I got the old pads out and went to put the new pads in I found that the inner piston on the drivers caliper was frozen. After trying for two hours to free up the piston I called around and found that O'Reilly had remans for $25.00 a piece and figuring it was far less aggravating than messing with the old unit I went ahead and ordered one for each side of the front suspension.

O'Reilly called me the next morning to tell me the calipers were in and I swung by after work to pick them up. Once I got home I went to remove the old caliper and after a few days of spraying down the rusted bolts with penetrating oil, taking a torch to it in an attempt to loosen it, and even the "soak it in coke" suggestion that I'd been given from other forums/members I finally got the first bolt out and life was starting to turn around.

I thought we had gotten both bolts out just fine after a few days of working with the bolts, then realize SNAP! the 2nd bolt had snapped in half inside the caliper bracket. I ran to the store and got an "easy out" kit to try to drill the bolt and get it out of the caliper bracket...that didn't work.

I've called the Nissan Dealership and all of the local "box stores" and it appears no one can order the caliper bracket (or I'm asking for the wrong parts?) I guess I'm at a loss at this point as to what to do, I can't put the new calipers on until I get the bolt out of the bracket or buy a new bracket and replace the one with the bolt stuck in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated even if it's just a referral to a website where I might be able to buy the part I need.

I've also decided since I'm at the point where I'm frustrated beyond description and things have hit a stand still, I'm considering upgrading to the Toyota 4 piston calipers while I'm at it. Correct me if I'm wrong but the caliper that I'm looking for is the S12+8 on a stock suspension 1976 Datsun 280Z with factory steelies. I found that O'Reilly has the Toyota 4 pistons for the exact same price as the factory Datsun calipers. Seems sort of like a waste to not upgrade since I need new calipers anyway and there's no additional cost other than the 280ZX brake master cylinder which again O'Reilly has for ~$30.00.

Anywho I'm rambling now thanks everyone for any help.
