datsun dave
Will be fitting my Rb26 engine & RB25 gearbox soon into my 240z do i, 1) Fit the engine and gearbox as one. 2) Fit the gearbox first then fit the engine. Also i have had the engine rebuilt (head is now fitted) is it better to built it up inside the engine bay or fit all the parts back now on the engine stand ?. Thanks. dwarlick
I put the engine and gearbox in as one unit and I did it by myself. Be sure to take the shifter out of the gearbox.
jdizzy204
with the engine and trans together on the stand, it can be very difficult to maneuver the whole thing into the engine bay but it can save you time. If you have repainted the engine bay and dont want to scratch new paint or you are doing the swap alone, put the trans in first and then drop the engine in. if you have help then drop them in at the same time and be very careful and try to fit what you can before putting the engine in the bay
240zdan
ive always found it easiest to drop it in as an assembley. aligning the tranny with the engine while its in the car doesnt sound too fun.
jakeoster
I put it in as a single unit and had to mounts on it ready to go. Took about ten minutes to get it in. If you have a 280z your going to have to beat in the transmission tunnel a bit to fit in the speedo sensor.
gmac708
I have had mine in and out a few times and found it not too hard to do as an assembly however... Removing shift lever and harmonic balancer makes it easier.
