mwiley
Ok, heres the thing. I blew the head gasket in my early 74 260z last night, oil all over the rear of the engine bay. Not sure how much damage was done but got it home to storage, it being October in Eastern Canada its going to bed early this year. Was hoping to re-do the interior this winter but looks like a rebuild instead which is a little scary for someone who hasn't done it before. I've been looking for an L28 but no luck finding one around here. I did find a rebuilt L24 though. Should I rebuild the L26 or just put in the L24 and rebuild the L26 later. Funds are an issue at the moment so I can get the L24 for about the same cost as the parts I'm going to need to do the L26.
ezzzzzzz
You're not driving the car now. Pull the head on the engine to determine what the damage is. Did you shut right down when things went bad? Did you hear the horrible din of knocking from a spun bearing? You may be able to get your engine going without much effort or cost. Meanwhile, keep looking for a L28. You'll find one in time.
CamH
If you do decide to go to the L24, the difference in performance won't be much at all.
