Guest greimann
1/2 gasoline and 1/2 ethanol (50% concentration) is way too rich a mixture to run a gasoline engine on, plus, you can guarantee you will have problems when the residue in the tank an lines makes its way to your filter and jets / injectors. Make up a 10% to 15% mixture of gasoline / alcohol right before you go to the check, and fill up with gasoliine right after the test to dilute the alcohol concentration. Run the tank down to 2 or 3 gallons and add 2 to 3 12oz bottles of "HEET" gas dryer. Alcohol is an oxygenate and will help complete combustion. Note that this trick works on carbureted and open loop FI cars only. If you run an FI setup with an O2 sensor, the extra oxygenate in the fuel will trick the O2 sensor into thinking the mixture is too lean and ADD fuel to compensate. Sumo
If you have it available in CA get a bottle of RXP. Usually Autozone or O'Reily hi/lo has it for around $6.95 treats 25 gallons. It completes combustions and reduces emmissions too. I've used it here in Texas for our emissions testing. here's their site http://www.rxp.com/
Guest Anonymous
Look you guys, I own a 76' 280z which has been running on an Operating Permit (%^&%ing CA DMV)for quite a while. I am getting some new parts for it, but when i take it in to smog it, i want to make absolutely shure that it passes. What I have heard is that if you throw in 1/2 parts 92 octane and 1/2 parts Ethyl Alchohol you'll pass like a motherfer. or even like 102 Octane boost stuff and regular pump 92 octane. Specifically, the Z has large problems with Carbon Monoxide. So people, what sould i run in the tanks and what dirty tricks do you know of to pass? johnc
If you are going to a test only station most of the techs receive training to spot "funny" fuel. Whether they will or not is another story.
