California emissions????

I was hoping some of the California members could answer some questions for me.

Do California cars have any special equipment on them to meet the states emissions test?

For example-I have a 94 altima that might be coming from Texas. Will the only requirement be that it passes smog? If so what or my chances?

I know it may sound dump but I always heard the term California emissions without knowing what it meant.

A little back ground.

I have started working out here and soon will be relocating my family from Texas. I am hoping that sometime in the next few months that I will be able to transfer to somewhere else or accept a new job somewhere else. With that in mind I would like to bring my car or cars out here and leave them plated in Texas. With the hope that I want have to pay California state tax. Since I still own property in Texas and it has no state Tax. The reason for the questions is that if I don't end up moving then I will have to stay and register the cars here and I don't want to be stuck with a car I can't register and can't sale in this state because emissions. If it is likely not to pass then I should just buy a car here and register it here.

Sorry so long. Thanks in advance

what is needed if you're registering a vehicle from out of state.

The term "california emissions" refers to california specific smog requirements. There were quite a few vehicle models manufactured specifically for california. Many models will show lower horsepower rating for california only as a result as well. For example, there was a nissan altima and sentra CA edition. Many motorcycles are known as 49 state, because california is the only state that requires motorcycles to have smog equipment and charcoal canisters.

If all your smog equipment is STOCK and working on your 94 altima, then yes, it'll pass smog as long as you inform the smog test place that it is an out of state vehicle.

as long as its not been modified-all equipment is there and working.AND-it passes the sniffer.but make sure the smog test place tests it while the engine is hot-better chance of passing.make sure it is tuned up good and has a clean air filter.sometimes the car runs normal and fails for nox-usually a non functioning egr system
