Guest Sean280z
I haev heard of using the 700R-4 transmission and also the turbo 350. Which is the better way to go? and which transmission is easier(cheaper) to buy. i know the 350's are really common but what about the 700 R's? Motorsports Auto has there kit set up for the 700R and has an adaptor for the 350. But what does JTR recommend? Thanks for the help Sean
Guest Anonymous
The JTR transmission mount really is the same for all the transmissions and it'll work with just about any thing you want to mount on it. As far as whats better, well its like this, the 700r has the overdrive which makes it much nicer to cruise on the freeway with. With the Z's gearing the TH 350 will wind out and run quite a few rpm's on the freeway. If you don't drive much highway its workable, but to be honest (and this is just my opinion) if I were going to do a non-overdrive automatic transmission in a Z it would be a 2spd powerglide. Its got aftermarket parts for days, and is the uncontested automatic of choice in a light drag car (opinion again, but I think thats a fair statement). The choice really is up to what your going to do with the car. Another choice is the 200r/4 built up, it is a light alternative that takes less power to run than a 700r and is physically smaller and lighter. Just a few of the popular options. Good luck with it. Guest Sean280z
I work at an engine rebuilding shop and the owner has a 700R-4 that he will sell me. It will need to be rebuilt though. Can my dad and i rebuild it ourselves? We have rebuilt a couple manuals before, including the one in my z. I have heard that automatics are much more complicated though so should we give it a try or just pay to have it done? What would be a resonable price for this core transmission? I want to get an idea tha way i know my boss isnt ripping me off. lol thanks, Sean
