Evan Purple240zt
I have an 02 WRX that spun a rod bearing (bought the car like that) and debris made it into the head and scratched the cam journals up and also did some damage to the heads. The heads are easy to replace, but may still be serviceable if I can get the cams repaired. Why not get new cams you say? Well turns out this engine has stage two brian crower cams and I would REALLY like to use them. What say you hybridz? I can get photos tonight of the damage. CamH
I'm not an expert on the subject by any means, but it seems like, if you were to use them, they would eat through lash pads quickly, depositing metal shavings in to the oil. You may be able to have them welded up and reground, though. However, I think at that point, it would be cheaper to just buy new cams. Evan Purple240zt
The lobes are perfectly fine, its the journals that are scratched (the bearing surface). I agree though, if the lobes were cashed the cams would be garbage for sure.
Kennysgreen280zt
Just give delta cams a call. Im pretty sure they can do those types of repairs. their service is usually affordable and quick.
Evan Purple240zt
The going rate at this point is $20 a journal. Good deal IMHO and the cams will get shipped this week. Evan
