Moridin
What about cutting for vents and all that stuff? How will that affect the longevity and overall well being of the piece? I'm pretty sure that a few of us want to use these things in street cars.
tsumner
Ron ,how much would a fiberglass dash run ,and how much heavier would it be?How reflective is the carbon fiber? It would be a shame to have to paint it to avoid glare on the windshield.Later Tom
rc's240z
First of all there is no real difference in weight, the fiberglass one we took around to several shows last year weighs about the same as the carbon one. the difference is in how they are manufactured. because of the clear resin on the CF dash it is necessary to manufacture several different sections and connect them together so that the Cf will look correct and not ratty. the fiberglass can be molded as one piece, MUCH easier to make and less of a time investment. For a street application it would be possible to install vents for the defroster and the drivers and passenger side of the car, however, remember that none of the infrastructure is there to mount the factory heatercore, vent tubes or blower motor etc.
Moridin
Thanks for the reply on the vent stuff. I know it doesn't have all the mounting stuff, but I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn't look like crap if you cut it up for vents and all. I just didn't want to ruin the CF. The fiber glass would be up to the task IMO, but the "wow" factor of the CF is awesome. Do you guys have a tenative price on either dash? rc's240z
see my previous posts for pricing of CF Dash BTW, did you purchase your strut bar in northern california? at Zfest
Moridin
Guess I got so excited that there was a link that I didn't see the price you quoted. As for the strut bars, I ordered them before Christmas. I saw the sale and the good shipping deal, so I jumped on it. I did first see the bars at the Zfest (I think this was the one). I'm really happy with the build quality, but I have to install them. I'm hoping to get the tranny in and the car off the jack stands in a few days. Just been busy with school and work. It may be easier to just install the bars while its up on the stands, but I want to take a before and after drive. Anywho, thanks for all the info on the CF dash. Do you know what the price would run on the fiber glass one? Or, if the CF one is reflective at all? I'll probably put the carpet on top anyways to protect it from the sun. Thanks again, you have been very helpful and definitely held my interest in doing so. Oh, and if you need any help with that website (I think it could flow a little better) just let me know. DavyZ
In think it was Z-Fest or Z's by the Bay. Great show BTW. Davy
Moridin
Thanks Davy, I think it was Z's by the Bay. It was a good show. Good assortment of cars and Mr. K with the new Zs. Anyways, is anyone still interested knowing the price and all? Maybe some are more interested in the fiber glass one. I know its going to be cheaper. Any more questions? Please post them. Guest Anonymous
ph and they also list a console in the works in there website, any word on that?
rc's240z
new replacement consoles are available presently from a number of sources, we were thinking that a CF console would be cool to go with the dash...but alas not enough interest...Ask Mike Kelly ZF Racing...anyway, a fiberglass dash is less money, but we will not consider doing them unless we can make a run of 10 or more. It's not worth the effort or the money we would have to charge to make just one. Find 10 people who will pony up and you'll get your fiberglass dash, copies will run around $600 to $700 a copy.
