Guest Anonymous
I am considering changing the side windows and windshield for a custom rebody, but want to retain the roll up side glass. Lexan scratches to easy for a frequently driven car, and the design is not much of a departure from what the Z-car already has. Essentially, I will be removing the top and reinforcing the car. The treatment I want to give the side glass and windshield consists of taking about 2" off the height, and radiusing the top corners to be a smooth arc rather than a hard angle. Once this is done, I'll be making a custom fiberglass hardtop for the car. With the fiberglassing, I'm moving on that, but with the window glass, I don't know where to start. Is this a job for a glazier? Or are there custom auto glaziers out there anyone could refer me to?
blueovalz
side glass I believe is tempered, and that makes it tough. I believe it can only be ground off, similar to a cutting wheel for metal. But it's a very slow process because any heat differential or build-up while removing this will chip or crack the glass. Water helps a lot on this, but specialized equipment is what is needed.
