Guest Anonymous
Does anyone bother to use the 1/2" spacers between the front crossmember and the frame as suggested in the JTR manual? Thanks jumbo240z
pparaska
I did NOT use them for three reasons: 1) They weren't needed to get the engine to fit back in the compartment. I did not use their hood latch bracket, so clearance there was not an issue for me either. 2) They take away from already insufficient oilpan to road clearance. 3) They made my driveshaft u-joint angles worse than without them. My site has some info on the last point under "Drivetrain Mods" Cheers,
Guest Anonymous
Thanks Pete. The manual says you need them for harmonic balancer clearance, but it didn't make sense since the motor mounts to the crossmember. And you're right, I should consider the driveline angle too. BTW, your site was one of the first I checked out. Read every page, and I refer back to it often. It almost scared me off because of the extent of the restoration/upgrade!!! That's a show car you're building! I can only dream... Anyway thanks. I'm trying to figure this whole thing out on paper first. I know things will change once I put wrench to nut, but until I get more cash it's all I got!
Guest Anonymous
Agree with Pete, didn't use them either if for no other reason than pan clearance (which to be honest took me a while to figure out why I'd be losing clearance, but was made clear with Pete's help.). They really are'nt required in my opinion. Good luck with a swap, and don't be scared off, as far as swaps go, its fairly straight forward and easy to do. Mike kZ
I used them, I wanted the engine to sit down lower. I have a completely adjustable pinion angle, so that wasn't a problem.
Guest Anonymous
Thanks guys. MikeKz, it looks like your Z is designed to run great in a straight line (That Diff anit goin break!) but I'll ask you this question anyway. Have you noticed any gain in "bump steer" or any "looseness" in the steering with your Z?
Mike kZ
I haven't had a chance to drive it yet, but I did do the "bump steer" mods according to JTR. Also the rear has a Panhard bar, and the shock setup is angled inward at 10 degrees / , this should help for handling as well.
