Glad i found this site, as im sure i will have TONS of questions!!

I found a 78 280Z under a tree, that looked ok but needed work. well after talking to the guy, it turns out its cheap and has no motor. WORKS FOR ME....i was going to clean it up and sell it, but thought i would have a quick look for a motor. Somehow i found a wrecked SC300 for a great price so i got that also. I will start by going NA first and get the car running and driving.(might sell at this point)

Let me get this out there.....im more of a V8 chevy guy. Dont get me wrong, i LOVE all kinds of cars. Most of my work has been either on my old fords (65&63 tbird's) LT1's or porsche stuff. Im new to the Z cars and very new to jap motors.

So far I have the motor/trans out of the Lexus, and am working on the harness.

ok, question time

1. What else will i need from the wrecked SC300??

2. how do people deal with the wiring harness's(do i run both?, mate them,>??)

Ill post some pics soon!!

many thanks ahead of time, and some pics can be seen at www.pipautomotive.com

Hmmm im am def not a expert on doing this but from what i am understanding the 280 drivetrain is pretty strong so you should be ok with the 280 diff.

Idk def the ECU from the SC, linkage, cylinders (it was a manual or auto?)im not sure what else kinda taking shots in the dark. Im working on a 73 2jz swap and know the 280 is different but not sure how all different still learning alot myself.

This is def the right place to find out tho lol.

thanks john, i sure will.

in the mean time im sure ill have tons of questions.

how/what do most people do about the 2 harness issue. Ive seen places that combine 2, but that was for a newer 240....

im doing the the swap from the 93 sc300 in mine w/ r154 trans. on the harness issue, if you take a look at supramania or google, you will find a ge ecu printout for a gs300, its very similar or should i say exactly the same. only one i have ever found. it shows the basic wires you will need to run the engine. if your smogging, keep everything. if your keeping your factory gauges, wires are seperate anyways. so just tap in your gauges and it should work.

understand the harness and wire in a relay. there is more to it but its a start.
