tdab
I just scored these Snap-On boxes from Craigs yesterday and I was wondering if anyone has any clue how old they are? The guy was not the original owner and claimed he has had them for over 10 years. From the shop I removed them from it looks like he has had them for at least that long. I was not even in the market for a new tool box set up but for $350, I even drove 60 miles to get them after the guy sent me the pics. These things are heavy. From the Nascar stickers, it looks like they are from the 80's. The top box is KR-550B and the Bottom is KR-555B....You guys seen any like this? I think I did good considering there are not really any dents. Just really dirty.

Post 1985 most top line boxes had roller bearing sliders. Guys at the dealer had boxes in this style as early as 1982. The top and bottom would have been stacked. From what I remember not counting the side cabinet these would have cost about $2k or so in 1983. Hope that helps. tdab
Alan, That is great info. None of the drawers have bearing sliders. They are all friction but move freely with no hitches or anything. None of them are tweeked or anything so it looks like it was well taken care of. All 3 locks match the same key and the 3 keys look original. The boxes were stacked when I took them. I will put them back together after it gets cleaned and de-greased. That will be easier with the top box off. I bet the top alone weighs close to 100 lbs. It is a bear. Thanks again for the info. Very cool that this set may be over 25 years old. ModernS30
I wish I could find a deal like that on a box like that. Come with tools to? Either way, I have so many tools they still wouldn't all fit in that. Great find.
DrSideways
Glad you got a good deal. Try and find some ZEP 45. It is a spray lube with Teflon. Give the runners a good spray twice a year and you can pass this on to your kids. Alan
