Guest Philanthr0py
My valve cover is pretty old and dirty looking, i want to clean it up and paint it another color. Probaly blue.. My question is: Do you need to do any sort of prepping before you paint? and what kind of paint do I use so that it doesn't burn off when i'm driving..? Tim240z
I am going to assume you are talking about the aluminumn L6 valve cover? I cleaned it with carb cleaner, then used a scotch brite pad and thinner to get it really clean, then wiped it down with thinner and a blue paper shop towel. Let it dry and shot it with engine enamel spray paint. It has held up very well over the few thousand miles that I have put on it so far. DavyZ
I suggest using a 'self-etching' primer over the base metal, then paint to your heart's content. Davy
