David K
ok i pulled the broken windsheild yesterday. i found lots of rust and a few holes under where the sealant and rubber goes. This is what i have completed so far. I stripped the paint with a wire wheel down to the metal/rust. I sanded everything and smoothened it out. I picked away little peices of rusty metal with a screwdriver and pliers. Then i sanded again. I applied the original Naval Jelly to the rust and exposed metal, liberally. Tommorow i am going to go back out and clean up the naval jelly from today, then spray some rust preventor that is black on the areas of my work. All the holes and uneven surfaces get bondo (not much to do anyway). I am then going to sand everything down one more time. i will then primer on top of bondo. I will find some kind of sealant to apply on top of that so water runs right off. The windsheild will be installed the day after all of this is done. What do you guys think or suggest? Guest m35514h
Are you using POR-15 or something else?? Be sure to use something designed to prevent rust, and eliminate/bond whatever rust is left.
Guest Anonymous
David treat that rust with "ospho" which can be found at auto paint stores. Ospho is the back bone of the POR15 system. You can spray it on with a spray bottle and let it chemically "seal" the metal and after curing wash off the residue with water. Then paint with some good epoxy paint to further seal the metal.
