cygnusx1
Last weekend I went to visit an engineer buddy of mine and he gave me a tour of the shop he works in. It's a NASA contract shop and some of the stuff in there was absolutely amazing. They run a cooling routine to test flight equipment at low temperatures. The cooling chamber is about 40 foot diameter and about 4 stories tall. They were in the process of bringing the temperature in the chamber down to 7 degrees Kelvin. I'll do the conversion for you....that's -446.8 ºF. It takes 30-60 days to get it down that low using liquid helium. They also had a subwoofer to test flight equipment for vibration durability during launch. It used a horn subwoofer with a mouth about 12 foot in diameter, in a room the size of a movie theater standing on end. Impressive stuff. Photography was politely discouraged so I don't have anything to show. Edited February 2, 2011 by cygnusx1
getoffmyinternet
So that subwoofer in pimp my ride wasn't the biggest? That jerk lied to us! Sounds pretty cool, wish you were able to sneak in a camera.
