Guest TAlchemist
ok i got my fuel cell finished and boxed in and everything. now i got a question. i put the fuel cell in a 16 guage box in the middle so i can run dual exhaust once i get my v8 later, do i need extra heat shielding on the box to protect the cell? i was thinking of puting a brush on thick undercoating on to protect the box but dont know how the heat will be. also i need to instal a heat shield for the fuel lines that go out behind the drag cell and up then around the box < which will be right next to the second exhaust > so what should i do, i was thinking of bending a a peice of steel to make a channel for the lines to run in, currently they are rubber lines but will be steel braided later. Guest greimann
I don't have specifics on about your fuel cell situation, but any heat shielding you do should involve using reflective material, with the shiny side directed toward the heat source. In open areas like exhaust routings where air movement can diminish convected heat, the radiated heat can be very significant. Shiny aluminum, stainless steel or silver painted surfaces will reflect radiation very well and it usually doesn't weigh much. For your fuel lines, look onto the reflective fabric sleeving that Summit sells. Heat Shield
Guest TAlchemist
if shinny is best why is the factory heat shield not shinny but painted just like the car? well it was until i cut it out with the spare tire well.
Guest greimann
The factory is not going to necessairly do what is technically the best, but what also is visually pleasing and econmical to produce, but is still somewhat functional. Some kind of solid barrier that is not attached to the thing you are protecting will still serve the purpose for exhaust heat, but if it is shiny, all the better, technically. Tim240z
It's also going to depend on how close your exhaust is to the fuel cell. I shielded it by using a foil type (with bubble wrap type air pockets in between the foil layers) on the inside of the fuel cell box. Just another option. Guest TAlchemist
how well does the reflective tape work, it is easy to do and cheap, could i wrap the rubber lines in that until i switch to steel lines and a heat sleeve? also could i make a heat shield and use the tape to coat one side?
