83 RB20ZX

Ok I was going to wait until I got back home to take more pics and get it all done, but being 1500 miles away from home in a motel room gives me time to kill.

I'm in the process of putting a RB20DET into an 83 280zx. First off the manual trans mount for the 280zx does work and will put the transmission in the right spot. Next as most of you probably already know is that the oil return from the turbo WILL rest on the steering column and will have to have some solution fabricated to correct its placement. I can't post pics from my phone but in time they'll come and I'll add more to my build thread.

Ok so I'm bored again and still away from a proper P.C.. I'm not doing big mods on the motor itself. I'm running a Nismo adjustable for, which you have to stick a screwdriver inside the fuel feed side and straighten it out to fit correctly, and Walbro 255 pump. Word of advice though if you've searched like I did you might've seen a thread on the oil return sitting on the driveshaft in the S130, Wangan's solution is probably the best at this point. Do not, I repeat, do not try to buy a oil return kit and fit it up, it will not work and you'll get even less clearance if you try to drop the motor in with it installed.

I know you guys are hurting for pics, here's what I have for now until I get back to Texas.

Ok, so I was finally able to come home for a while and have rested.

To get my 240sx throttle cable working took a little fubaring, but required parts from a throttle cable kit from autozone and keeping the 240sx bracket that mounts it to the firewall. I kept the stock plenum so I had to trim all of this to work and fit properly.

Also, I used some autozone motor mounts, part number 2429. They're basically hockey pucks, and I haven't had any trouble with my engine placement with them.

When I get a chance when the rain lets up I'll head out and snap some pics.

Ok, so I finally got it all together, minus an exhaust from the turbo back, and installing a modified a/c system. Was trying to install that speedhut tach today, but got sidetracked with a bit of family time. It's been a long drawn out process with me being in and out of town for the last 8-9 months, but I probably couldn't have gotten this done without the help and support of Pat, in part because of his awesome pan, and his knowledge of the RB20DET.

I'm off from work tomorrow so, I'll get pics and write up the wiring. That aside, I still have yet to put my Speedhut tachometer in, and am in need of a matching temp gauge. Other issues are that I've discovered that i need a new differential mount among other things, too. I'm using the stock 280zx speedo with the FS5W71B mechanical speedo sensor in the FS5W71C transmission. A/C is in the works, considering I'll have to get the fittings made onto the RB a/c compressor for the 280zx. All in all, the swap itself is not difficult at all. I would rate it as a 5 with 10 being the hardest swap to complete.
