  1. Thanks superior78-z for the compliment. Sorry for not responding right away. I have been in the process of moving the last couple of weeks while also trying to get this z on the road at the same time. I have the car running and took it for a test drive but am having problems with the transmission. When i put it in gear it takes off fine and goes about 5 feet and then wont go any further. It is almost like something is locking up. I am in the process of pulling out the tranny now and will have someone look over it for me. I will load more pics soon and fill in with details on what parts i had to use to make everything work. If anyone could think of what might be my tranny issues please let me know what you think. thanks.
  2. I will be running the T5, but havent gotten to that point yet. I will be using all aftermarket guages though.
  3. Hey Bmies! This was my first swap to and it has been fun and frustrating. First off JTR already makes motor and tranny mounts for a sbc. This would have been so much easier, but i really wanted to put a 5.O into it. The engine is an 87 i believe. It had already been converted to carb. Eventually i will probably go fuel injected. I am using a T5 transmission which fits pretty good when the motor is as close to the fire wall as possible. I was actually able to use the factory transmission mount in the tunnel. It might have to be reinforced though. As for motor mounts i bought urathane mounts for the motor and then made some plates that are bolted for now to the crossmember, but will be welded in completly soon. ( I can post some pics soon) The headers are Summits tight tuck headers. Will work great for passenger side. The drivers side is a different story. It will have to be cut and reworked. The rack style power or manual steering will not work. The steering shaft would have to go right through the mount. The power assisted recirculating ball steering will work great with a custom header. The rearend is a R180 right now. I have an R200 that I will LSD from my 83 or buy a R200 lsd from a 300zx. The suspention is from Techno Toy Tuning and Modern Motorsports. I had to section out the strut tower and bought shorter adjustable struts. Then welded on a perch for the coilovers to sit on. If you have any other questions let me know. Hopefully i will have it driving in a couple of weeks.
  4. Hey everyone I just wanted to post some pictures of my build i have been doing over the past year. This is my second Z car and I still have the other one which ive had since i was 16. Over the last 10 years I have been buying parts and doing as much research as possible. After all said and done I decided to do the 5.0 build because I love the look of the Z, but the sound of a good mustang. Anyways here are some pics of the build. Any comments are welcome. Thanks.

  6. thanks guys. i called in an order for the front coilovers. by the way i have an 83 280zx and wondered if any one has the rear coil over set up. it looks really nice. i just wanted to see what people who got them thought about them.
  7. hey everyone i was just wondering if there is anyone who has bought the front or rear coil over setup from modern motorsports. I searched and have only see people talk about them but have not seen any pictures or heard of anyone purchasing there front or rear set up. If anyone has how long did it take to get and how low does the rear coilover set up go? thanks for any info
  8. i have been researching and been thinking about possibly installing a ford 5.0 into my 83 280zx. i was just wondering what rear end i should use. im a pretty sure the turbo models came with a different rear end than the n/a. is this true and if so could i get one of these. if not what else is everyone else doing. thanks for any info. foremalaz
  9. where exactly is the cylinder head temp switch. because when ever i disconect the vacume from the fpr to the intake manifold it wants to run better.
  10. checked both the injectors and fpr. both seem to be fine. today when i started it up it idled a little better, but it kept backfiring when i gave it gas. do you guys think there is any way possible that the distributor is bad. i have the vacuum advance go bad before and it backfired a lot. im thinking about putting a new distributor on.
  11. thanks guys for the info. actually i bought some new wires and connectors for the fuel injectors, but just havent had the time to put them on. i will deffinitely check out the injectors and see if they are all working. thanks again
  12. i still havent fixed the problem. the smoke is black im pretty sure. i was told by a tech at my work that it was running really rich. he thinks it could be the mass air flow sensor. i had a friend follow me and he said it was shooting out flames.

  14. well guys i replaced the cap, rotor, and plugs. this time the car started up, but it is still having the same problem with barely wanting to run. any other help would be great thanks

  16. hey guys im kinda new to hybridz. been a member for a couple of months or so. anyways i have an 82 zx n/a. ive had the car since i was 15 and currently getting ready to turn 21 ( about time). the car has been sitting for the last couple of years, but has been run periodically. i drove it from my parents house in NC to my place here in ohio. the car ran fine and i had no problems. then about a week or so ago the car started running funny. it had loss of power and was sputtering. then one day i tried to start it and it barely wanted to run. idled very low and puffs of smoke were coming out. also if you gave it gas it wanted to die. if i pulled of the hose to the fuel pressure regulator to the intake manifold it would idle a little better. but if i tried to drive it though it would sputter all the way to about 2000 rpms and then it would cut out. i was told by a couple of people it was the AFM. so i took off the afm and checked the flap and it was fine. i even took off the black cover and the internals looked like new. i clean the inside of the afm a little and put it back on the car. when i tried to start it it would almost catch but wouldnt start at all. im thinking its the afm, but is there any possiblities it being the distributor, plugs, fuel filter, etc. any info would help. i just want to get the car running so i can move it to my new apartment. i dont want to dump a lot of money into this engine because i will be doing a turbo swap shortly. any help is appreciated greatly. thanks, ForemalaZ
  17. hey guys. i have an 83zx non turbo and the other day i got rid of cruise control and removed the coil so i could sandblast the bracket. when i put the coil back together the car would barely run. it just smokes really bad and the car sputters up to 2000 rpms were it cuts off. also the coil is getting really hot. is this something to do with electrical or is it something to do with air flow or fuel. thanks for any help. foremalaZ
