  1. Has anybody spun or heard of anybody that spun a crank/ rod bearing? I think its a little crazy that an engine that is 30+ years old can handle 7000rpm. Did Nissan really built the L series engines that well?
  2. Yup that whole 1980 280ZX should of been a big hint... oops
  3. The intake and exhaust is a good idea, you can make the AFM a little rich and advance the ignition (run premium gas) The lightweight flywheel isn't necessary but you get the new clutch also and it makes a huge difference. It might be easier to stall but thats if you cant drive stick. But everything thats said above are some great things to do to your Z, but if you get your baseline high then everything that you do after will be that much better. If the car has good compression, valves are in adjustment, injectors are working as they should and ignition system is strong then do the next steps to your car.
  4. After it gets louder, what is your coolant temp? And can you get a infra-red thermometer and point it toward your head. If you have alot of advance in your car or are running too lean once your coolant heats up enough it will start to steam inside your head and cause preignition/ detonation which can sound like something is loose.
  5. its good to be home

  6. What engine is in the Z and head combo... from saying another bent rod I'm thinking push rod? If its an L6 it would help if you isolated what type of knock it is, just at idle, revving the engine, after a long drive like ignition knock? The head normally just ticks. Did you get to look at the head, cam and tappets (Saab terms sorry) to see if there was any scoring? How is the oil pressure? It wouldn't show much unless one of your bearings is realllly loose or has spun.
  7. I'm running the Black Tokico springs in my 76 280Z along with the Illumnia 5 way adjustable shocks and the MSA sway bar. Also camber plates and replaced the strut mount bushings and cleaned the bearings in the front. Along with the poly bushing kit, it feels like a completely different car. The wheel and tire package compliments the car alot and didn't lower it too much. If I had to do it again I would of gotten stiffer springs but thats because I have a 2+2 and it weighs a little more in the back. I every now and again will scrape my electric cut out on speed bumps but it was kinda weird to mount into my exhaust... But the car has litteraly no body roll and hugs the corners like its on rails. There was a post on Tokico springs binding and not working right after you bottom out, I have never seen it happen on either Z, my 75 or 76. But if you want to know more you can search on it. I believe there are links to other springs you can get that are just as good if not better. Hope this helps!
  8. Yes! a BRE spoiler for the 2+2's! I would be alllll over that and also the fender headlight bucket would be awesome! It seems like more 2+2's are starting to pop up, I have 2 and both would look really nice with one! As far as the tail light, if you could make it so everything would be flush it would make the rear end look soo sexy!
  9. Has anybody heard from skib lately?
  10. lmao not really for the IPB app that is on the bottom of hybridz when you view the page from my iPhone.. I'll figure it out later for now I'll do it the easy way. . . . I just finished the install. Not too bad 2 days of not hard work just goofing off with some friends. The hardest part was my stupidity. I was looking at the wiring diagram for the HID conversion and I'm thinking to myself 'how the heck am I supposed to wire this into the headlight switch!!!??!' I already cut the headlight wiring harness to get the plug out of the housing. After realizing that it uses the stock harness in part of the install (the three prong plug that goes into the stock bulb) I soldered them back together hooked everything up and really bright lights YAY! I had to modify the back of the headlight bucket to fit all the connections in it, about 1 1/2" square and it worked fine. Found a grommet to fit in both of them with the help of glue, then routed everything sorta nice. Today I drilled my headlight covers, I read the whole thing on 3M tape but I don't ever plan on bringing this car to stock, and it took a while to get it first shot. But it was well worth it. I got everything buttoned up and then started on the bumper. I marked two spots to drill and got the screws in and started on fabbing up mounts. Here's the pics of what I had time to take but Ben's HID's are really great and the 10K are as bright is not brighter then new cars. I love the set up and now I can see with my tinted lens covers. Now I just need to wire in the fog lights in the MSA bumper.. (I did a typo on the subject oops)
  11. thanks, I'm working on figuring out how to use the app.... in a few min hopefully
  12. Just started my install of the headlight covers, HID conversion and front bumper/ airdam. Also some body work more pictures to come once I figure how to add pics from my iPhone
  13. Hey I just got back from the sticks of upstate NY, it was almost a 4 hour drive in the Z. The two days before I spent installing my sway bars, Yota four piston calipers, ZX master, springs and the 5 way adj shocks, 5speed ACT road race sprung clutch and pressure plate, the Kameari flywheel, alum radiator and electric fan. The day before I left the HID's came in so I didn't have time to install them, that's todays project. Let me say that all the work made my car completely different and I love it. Body roll is non-existant, it stops sooooo quick, steering response is amazing and with the crazy light flywheel and no fan anymore the car pulls alot harder from just under 4000rpm all the way up. I love it and I find it hard to get out of the car.
  14. thanks guys, I got hammard drunk before I could install it, I just got back from overseas and all the buddies came over but I'm just about to install it. I'' be sure to take pics and post how it feels along with my road race sprung clutch
  15. tony, ithinks I hope you're right and I know I'm thinking way into this hahahaha. I never had the engine balanced its pretty much stock. I'm thinking ill put her on tonight
