  1. Would a larger capacity oil pan do the same thing as the accusump? Also, what did you do for forward crash protection?
  2. bump. Still looking for a set of used headers. This is going on a lemons car so anything will work if it flows better than stock...
  3. I've been reading and researching the L28. I am putting together a car for LeMons and am wanting to see what you guys think about this motor build. I want to keep the car N/A and want to just pep the motor up a bit. I'm thinking I should go with the Maxima N47 Head with a set of flat top pistons and a mild cam. I have a full machine shop and can unshroud the valves myself on my seat and guide machine. I am also looking for a set of headers that will free up the exhaust a little bit. Once that's all done, I'm wondering if Megasquirt will be enough to get the fuel system up to par. Will I need larger injectors? The motor won't be too radical with those upgrades but it should make it a little more fun to drive on the track. I've never built an L28 before as I went straight to an LT1 when I bought my Z several years ago. I just wanted to see what you guys thought. I know there are a lot of experienced people here who know plenty about the L28. Please let me know your thoughts! Thank you!
  4. PM sent. Still looking for all my options.
  5. I am looking for a set of flat top pistons for a mild street L28 build. I also need a set of headers. Thanks a lot guys!
  6. I'm building a light performance N/A engine and want to find a rebuild-able Maxima N47 cylinder head. Please let me know if you have one or know where to find one. Thanks!
  7. I just bought another project Z. This one I'm going to get ready to race in the Lemons series races. The car I bought is a 4 speed and the transmission that was in my LT1 Z was a 4 speed also. Please let me know if anyone can help! Thanks!
  8. I will say that you really need to be careful at this point and make sure you can find rubber for the wheels your getting. It's very difficult to find rubber for that wide of a tire on a 16" wheel. I was told early on when buying my wheels that 16" wheels would perform better, but it was really hard to find tires for 16x12 wheels. So, check into the tires real fast and make sure that won't change anything before you go a whole lot further.
  9. Check out http://diamondracingwheels.com/drwcustom.html They make steel racing wheels and will make them with custom bolt patterns and offsets. I thought about getting some from them and probably still will in the future for track use. I bought Kodiak racing wheels recently which are very pricey. It's very difficult to find wheels with the deep offsets and 4 lug bolt pattern. Look through the products on the website and give them a call and they'll help you out. The diamond wheels are very reasonably priced although, they don't look all that great. Very plain wheels but very functional.
  10. 17x12 and 17x9 3-piece Kodiak Racing Wheels Finally got them in after 6 months of waiting. I've already got adjustable coilovers. I just had some rubbing issues so it's raised way up so I can get it fixed. I'll lower it back down when those issues are resolved. Yay! More body work!!!
  11. I KNOW that they can handle up to 500 hp. From what I've read in the forums they have proven to handle up to 750 hp (yell at me if I'm wrong) but the halfshafts aren't strong enough. I think Modern Motorsports has a CV joint upgrade that solves that problem.
  12. It looks like the same story on the R180's. If I have enough people ask about them I may try to order some. I didn't sell alot of them before when I was doing this so I'll probably start with the R200 units first.
  13. This is the reply I recieved from the Sales executive concerning the factory being "destroyed". "Hi Larkin, Thanks so much for your help this afternoon. I'd like you to make sure everything is still ok in Japan. What I'm hearing from some of the customers is that the factory in Japan had problems during an earthquake last year an lost everything. They have told me that these units aren't available any more since the factory wasn't going to re-tool the factory for these units. Is that true? Apparently this is what a few people heard from Reider Racing last year. Thanks alot!" "From what I am hearing, there are no delays with any of the factories that we are using. I am being told that these are ready to be ordered and manufactured. Larkin Wood II lwood@omix-ada.com Sales Executive Omix-Ada, Inc."
  14. Of course I wouldn't ask for money before ordering these things. In the past I wouldn't even have people pay me directly. They would order the limited slip unit themselves and then have reider drop ship it to me for the install. So, I'll make sure I either have them in my hand or have a tracking number before taking orders. This time around, I've got the capital to buy the units myself before trying to make a sale. And like I said before, I'm really not trying to make money on this. It's just I see a lot of need for these things and it's a good way for me to contribute to the Zcar community and still make a little pocket change on the side for the installs. I hope this doesn't fall through this time around. I'm fairly confident everything's just fine. The main reason I quit doing this before was because it was just as easy for people to order them from reider racing and figure it out themselves as it was for them to go through me. I'll just have to play it out and see what happens. Edit: Also, I'd like everyone to keep this in mind. This is NOT my primary source of income by any means. I design and manufacture automotive machinery with my Father and this is completely on the side. I don't want people to get the wrong idea about this. I have the shop and resources to do a good job, but I'm not a customer service rep by any means. I'll do my best to keep this thing as professional as possible and I WILL make sure whoever I deal with is happy in the end. The only thing I can't promise is that there will be any sort of time line for getting one of these things out the door. At the very latest (once I actually have the LS units of course) it'll be a couple weeks before I can get one all cleaned up and shipped. I hope everyone is ok with that.
  15. The guy I talked to said everything was a go right now. He told me the prices on the units themselves but didn't know about shipping. He sounded very optimistic and definitely sounded like he knew what he was talking about. I'm gonna keep with it and make sure everything is still fine, I'll let you know if anything changes tho. I've been getting quite a few calls about LSD's so I know people need 'em. The sales rep did say that it would be a minimum of 45 days before they were ready to be shipped. Keep your fingers crossed I guess.
  16. Well, here's the deal. Reider Racing is no longer in business. They shut their doors about a year ago. The company that bought them and all their inventory can still get those units but there is a minimum amount that they have to order. I'm already set up as a distributor. What I'm going to do is buy the minimum amount (10) to have them shipped from overseas. The only downside now is that I have to pay for the freight from overseas. I don't know yet what that will cost. I know I can get rid of 10, I'm not going to get any more than that at this time. We'll see how fast they go since no one else is selling them. I'll keep you guys posted.
  17. Hey guys. It's been a while since I've been very active on the forums. I'm about done with school now and I'd like to be more active in the Zcar community. I've decided to go ahead and start building differentials again. I'm not doing it for any profit really, maybe a bit of pocket change. What I can offer is the Power Brute limited slip unit in whatever gear ratio diff you want. It's about $600 for a new unit plus shipping. I've got several diffs at the shop now with various gear ratios. I know I've got a 3.54, 3.7 and 3.9 out there right now. I've also got a couple r180's. Don't know what gear ratios they are tho. The limited slip unit for the r180 is a bit cheaper but I'll have to call up Reider Racing to find out exactly how much it is. For the rebuild differential itself I charge $150. If you decide to send me your differential, I'll cut that down to $75. With the shipping both ways to anywhere in the Continental US it'll end up being about $750 to $800 total. I know it's expensive but so is the alternative. Finding a used LSD is very difficult and often you'll spend over $700 when you do find one, and then it's going to be a 3.7 gear ratio. You could order the unit on your own and install it yourself for about $650 with the shipping for the limited slip. It's really not that big of a deal to do the install. The benefit you get tho is that you get whatever gear ratio and *if* I run into problems with shimming or whatever, I have the capability to fix it. I'll also machine the bolt spacers for the ring gear when it's needed. So, if anyone is interested, I'm in Gainesville Tx if your wondering about shipping. If you have any questions about the quality of work I do you can ask some of the members in the forums for a recommendation. Let me know what you guys think and if you have any questions.
  18. I would be in the GT class with all the modifications I've made so far. I need to talk to someone who really knows the SCCA rules to be sure, but that's what I saw that fit my car best.
  19. I'm not planning to go super wide up front. I think the max I want to go is about 9.5". I don't want the problems with steering you guys are talking about. But I do need some meat under the rear with the v8 power. I just don't know what the issues are on the rear. I don't think theres as much to worry about back there, but I just wanted some other opinions. Thanks alot for all your help.
  20. I'm leaning toward going with 12" wide wheels and 16" dia. That would make a decent offset wheel so that I wouldn't load the bearings too bad. I could then do a little better than the stock bs if I went with the 12" wheels. I'm planning on road racing with this car, so I am concerned primarily with what will perform best. I don't think the 12" will be too wide because I know many models of the vettes and vipers run wheels that wide, and then some... And I think I have enough power to utilize that much rubber. I can't go over 16" dia if I want to do SCCA events. 15" may be better, but I'm having trouble finding tires for either one. 12" is just sooo freaking wide. Greenmonster, what tires are you running on the rear of yours?
  21. Ok, I've been looking for wide wheels for my z for a while now. I've got about 400hp to the wheels and i've flared the fenders so I can put some rubber in there. I can go as big as 12" wide if I want to. My question is, for road racing, how much rubber do I need? Will too wide wheels affect how the car handles? Also, in order to fill out the flares, if I decided to go with say a 10.5" wheel, I would have to use a huge negative offset. Something like a 2" backspacing. I'm getting kodiak wheels, so they'll make them like I want. But where do I need to be in terms of offset and width so that I optimize handling and minimize wheel bearing load. I don't want to have too much negative offset. But I don't know what I need. Any help will be appreciated.
  22. Hey, I need all the help I can get. Please send me any ideas you've got, thanks. And aren't the 240sx's 5 bolt hubs?
  23. I have been looking for the past 6 months trying to find some decent wheels. But I'm hoping someone here is smarter than me and can help my dumb a** figure this out. I'm trying to find some 16" or 17" diameter wheels with a 9.5" width. But it's practically impossible to do with the 4 bolt pattern, unless you want to pay 800 bones per wheel... I can either go with the standard datsun 4 bolt pattern or I can make an adapter to use the honda pattern. 4x114/4x100 My backspacing is negative 3.5"/-44 These wheels will be used for racing but I do want some decent looking wheels that will show off my suspension too... I've looked through ALL of the stickys and have searched through the forums many times through and can't find anything. What I may end up resorting to is getting two sets of wheels, one just for racing i.e. diamond racing wheels or similar, and one set of 8" wide wheels (which seem to be more readily available) for street. But I'd rather just get one set of wheels. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Will I be able to find wide wheels for this specific application without paying out the butt for it?
