The Precision Gear Limited slip assembly is the exact same as the nismo unit. It's also cheaper. I highly recomend going with that. If you are considering getting one from me, check out this post. The prices are going to be a little better soon. PM me for more info. I can make the spacers if you need me to. All they are are a piece of tubing with a 10mm ID and a 12mm OD. I'll have to get the lenght of them though and then I'll post that. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=102602

This is what Kaaz offers... http://www.kaazusa.com/KAAZ%20USA%20-%20Products_files/KaazProductList.xls This is what precision gear has... http://precisiongear.com/powerbrute.htm I haven't really looked into Cusco so I better not comment on it. The price for any r180 LS assembly from precision gear is 450. For a R200 it's 600. From Kaaz the LS assembly for an R200 is over 900. I don't know about the R180. The only thing the Kaaz offers that is better than the one from nismo or precision gear is one more clutch disk on each side. Also they have more breakaway torque. All that means is how hard you have to turn to make the inside tire slip. If your car is before "84 you will have to install the bolt spacers to use the LS carrier from any company you buy it from because the 10mm housing is discontinued. The Kaaz unit can be either a 1.5 way or a 2 way. Check the chart. The Precision gear or nismo (they are the same part) lsd is a 2-way. I don't know much about the quife unit. If you want to spend that kind of money, go ahead. I think that the others will offer you the same performance, that's just my opinion though. None of the companies offer a complete LSD. You will have to install anything you get in a R200 housing or 180 or whatever. I hope this helps somewhat and if you do decide to get a unit from precision gear, let me know and I may be able to cut you some kind of deal. I will be a dealer for them in about a week or two.

I can probably do the spacers for about 25 bucks.

I know how to check the compression ratio. I built the engine in my own shop. I don't know what heads I had or what year model they came off of. I didn't pull the motor out of the car, I bought it from one of my customers. I think it was from a '92 model car. I know I pulled some parts off a little older engine but the heads I cc'd were, if I remember correctly, 63cc aluminum heads. I have it blueprinted. I think the cast iron heads I have are 8.5 and the aluminum ones were 9.3 or something. I measured it regardless.
-
I believe stock compression for a LT1 is 8.5:1. That is what mine was when I cc'd the heads and checked it. It came out of a '92 'vette.

I was just wondering if someone give me some ideas for bolt ons on a LT1 TPI. The only thing I know of is the bigger throttle bodies and I'm planning on getting one soon. What I have right now is a pretty good setup. I'm right at 395hp but I'd like to get that last little bit to get me a little over 400. What I've done to it is all internal. I've ported the heads, intake, and corvette exhaust manifolds to match the gaskets. Bigger valves, I think they were 2" intake and I did a performance valve job on the heads. I zero decked the block and cut the heads down to get 10.5:1 compression ratio. I got a taller cam, it's pretty hot but I would have to look it up to see how much taller it is. It gets it a pretty good lope but not too radical. I balanced the crankshaft and rods. I also bought a custom performance chip for the computer. I tuned the fuel pump on the dyno and I think it was best at like 42 or something. Can't remember exactly. I'm just looking for some things that I can do to make it run it's best and get everything out of it I can. Thanks.

Do you know what the torque settings are for the bolts that go in the ring gear?
-
How much are the shims you would have to order from nissan if the backlash didn't come out right? I would make them myself but for someone who didn't have a machine shop, they would have to order special shims right? Just curious. Thanks. Nice pics BTW!

I think this might answer some people's question about whether or not I will need to make "bolt spacers" for your diff. There is a lot of good info at this link. It says that they changed from 10mm to 12mm in "84. I will have to make spacers for any differential up until that point. Hope this can help. I know this link is in other places on this site but I think it may help some of you who are deciding which diff. you are going to send me.
-
The term "two-way" refers to when it locks up. 1-way means it only locks during acceleration. 1.5-way means it locks up during acceleration and some while braking. 2-way means it locks fully both ways. Either one you are always have the "limited slip" while turning. Hope you can get the general idea with that explanation. The 4.11 gears are no problem. You can just send me the diff and I can install the LS assembly.
-
I just learned that these LS assemblies are a two way LS just in case anyone wants to know. They do not offer a 1.5 way limited slip. Sorry.

Project, Shipping a r200 with the LSD installed to Gilbert AZ would be 641.55+tax because I have to charge tax. That is the price if you send me your differential with whatever gears you have in it. That would mean you have to ship your diffy to me for another 38.60. I'll install it for you for free and ship it back to you. If you want me to get you a differential with 3.9 gears, you can help me find one or I'll look around locally and you can pay whatever cost I get it for. Hope that is reasonable.

Do you know what material they are using for the spacers? Thanks. I called Precision Gear and they said that the LS assembly is a sealed unit. I assume that if when you get it and open the case it voids the warranty. I don't know how to check what it has inside it because they don't have anything about it on their website. Sorry. Wish I could tell you. I'm assuming that it is very similar to the stock units, whatever they have in them. The setups come straight from Japan and even Precision Gear doesn't open them.
-
Thanks Forrest. My shipping charges to one of my customers in Payson, AZ from Gainesville, TX shows for a 75lbs package $38.60 one-way. It may cost a couple of bucks more because the LS assembly may weigh a little more than the carrier it has in it. I haven't compared them. If you want the 4.11 gears, if you send me your r200 I can do that swap too. Or if you want the 3.5 gears or whatever. If you want me to find a diffy I can try that too if you think it might cost less. Let me know what you want to do. Thanks.

Does anyone know the weight of the r200 without gear oil? If I can get that number I can tell you the shipping costs.
-
Pop, how many are you wanting to get? From what I was told they are charging around 250 for installation. The LSD assembly weighs about 22lbs with the packaging. I don't know excactly how much the R200 itself weighs but without gear oil I'm sure it wouldn't weigh 150lbs. I can have the Limited slip assembly drop shipped to you straight from Precision Gear for $10 extra. The cost for the LSD is 602.95 plus shipping. Like I told you for the first couple of setups I am not charging for installation. Once I become a dealer I may charge a little but not for these first few. I want to offer z-owners like me a little cheaper alternative with some better gear options. If you do want me to ship you the assembly and have it installed locally I would be more than happy to order them for you and depending on how many you want I may be able to offer you a better price on the third one. It takes me about a month to get cleared as a dealer and then I can order the units a little cheaper. But I have to sell 2 at 602 before that can happen. If you want to help me out, that is the exact same price that I am paying for them. And I will install it for you if you want. Mortenson, on the bolt spacers. There are some problems with using them. Understand that it takes a certain amount of force to keep the pinion ring from moving. The 10 and 12mm bolts are both going to take a certain force to shear. The problem is if you use a bolt spacer, you take a risk of instead of holding the pinion ring tight, you are holding the spacer down. And if you get the spacer too short, it is free moving underneath the bolt and there is no benifit. The better alternative is to get a 10mm bolt with a 12mm shoulder. They are kind of expensive to machine but it is possible. Understand that you don't need either one. If the pinion ring is going to move, it's going to shear the bolt, spacer or not. The pressure on the bolt head is what keeping the ring from moving, not the bolt stem hitting the walls of the pinion ring. Some people will want to use spacers anyway because it will make them feel better and I don't dissagree with that at all. If you want the spacers, I can machine some on my lathe for a couple of bucks apiece. I'll try to get some information on the shouldered bolt and see what they will cost. On the shims for the backlash, they are very easy to machine and I won't charge for those. Hope this helps. From what I was told at precision gear, they have the same amount of clutch plates as the lsd's from the other nissans. They are ordered straight from nissan and are sealed kits. So there would be a waranty on them BTW! Just a little reassurance.

Here's the deal. I own a machine shop in Gainesville Texas. I also own a '78 z with a 395 hp LT1. I want a LSD. I don't have a lot of money to buy one. What I want to do is order a couple of the power brute lsd's and install them in some r200 with a 3.9 gear ratio. They cost about 602.95 for the first two that I buy. After that I can get them at 20 percent off. What I'm willing to do is install two for free for anyone that wants one so that I can get them at a cheaper price and become a dealer. I have the facilities and the experience needed to reliably install them. If anyone would be willing to do this, I will give you the LSD installed in a 3.9 gear ratio R200 at my cost. Either you provide the R200 and I install the LSD in what you provide or I find one in a junk yard for $50 and sell it to you at $652.95. I can't become a dealer until I buy over $1000 of parts from Precision Gear. If I can do a little work on some Differentials and become a dealer and get a couple diffy's at $480 it sounds worth it to me... Let me know. If this sounds like a deal to someone, you get a power brute lsd installed in a 3.9 geared R200 for free. Hope someone's interested.
