  1. I am not a serious drift type. But I do drift for kicks. S chassis, 13 & 14's are by far the easiest type to build and drift. Information on set up is abundant, parts are readily available, and the chassis is very predictable and provokable. But they are far too common now. I remember the days when no one knew what drifting was.... I plan on building an S30Z one day soon...I hope. Not primarily for drift, but of course I will drift it on occassion. The main draw back of the chassis is the wheel base. A lot of people state that the car has too much snap oversteer. The chassis is flexy, and set up info for drifting is basically non existant. But it can be done. Case in point. I went for quite a few laps with Ryan Hampton in his Falken Tires / Drif Alliance '67 -'69 Camaro. Not the ideal drift car. But the car was awesome!!! It just takes some R&D. I hope to see more Z cars at events. If it's something you want to do, don't let people tell you that it will not do well. Even FC /FD3S are difficult cars to drift. Adapt and over come. What I would do... -Seam weld the hell out of the car. -Custom fab numerous chassis braces -Weld in cage -Fab a power steering rack to fit ... ...I say use maybe FC / FD3S, as extra angle tie rods/rod ends are readily available. -Increase caster settings to help with snap oversteer. -Motor of your choice / strong clutch kit -Of course change out all bushings -2 way r200 clutch type diff. This is just a few things, but you get the idea, add what you think would benefit your style. I hope to see you guys out there! And if you're in Cali, especially the Bay Area, don't forget out our newly built Drift Land Course, formerly Altamont raceway. Irwindale style, with no walls!!! Sessions every thursday night by NCDA.NET!!!!
  2. Okay. Okay. So I guess maybe some of you don't realize I'm asking for advice on spring rates for a not so common engine swap, that has effect on weight distribution and such. The search function is great. It just doesn't really help with the specific questions I had. I mean, calling vendors is of course an option. But if I can't ask the friendly folks on this forum for their advice, then why are we all here? Isn't this site about sharing information? Point taken. So, I guess I'm going to try maybe 150 F, 200R or 200F, 250 R...With Illuminas For starters. I'll eventually try the weld in camber plates, and adjustable arms. Coilovers, Bushing kit, LSD already going in. Cage, and chassis bracing will probably be the first thing I do. Thanks to all that offered their opinions. HYPERTEK, are you on Ziptied too?
  3. Thanks guys. You're uh really helpful. I was just asking for opinions on spring rates.
  4. Searched. Maybe I'll try a different type of search. I just thought maybe some of the members that frequent the tracks and are somewhat of suspension set up gurus would have some insight. After all the with the engine swap, chassis/sus tuning has new variables. I was thinking 200lbs F, 250lbs R. What do you think about that?
  5. So, just wanted to hear your thoughts and input. The details...It's a '72 with an Redtop SR20. Packing the normal bolt ons, still has factory T25. ( Will upgrade to BBT28 ) She is making 200 whp an 7psi, 250 at 14psi. Once the turbine, injector and tune is upgraded I expect about 310whp. I doubt I'll ever want more. So this car is really going to be multi purpose. There's tons of events I will be going to. Gotta love the bay area's events. I love to drive and just want to have fun, while remaining competetive and furthering myself as a driver. Events: SCCA Auto X, Rally X, Track days , hill climbs and the occasional Drift day....And of course, aggressive street/canyon/ mtn fun. Please feel free to offer some constructive advice on suspension parts selection, and set up. I am really needing to know what spring rate / shock will work best. Is there short stroke struts available for S3O. And what control arms, camber plates are recomended. And why? Cost? Lots of questions. Thanks guys.
  6. Christian, They also make FNO1RC in 9jj +15, or 10jj +12... I've seen 8jj +0, looked fresh. A little fender rolling, possibly a little more negative camber. So with a 15 mm spacer you'll have an effective offset of +1. Not bad. What's the spec on the mesh wheels you have now? They look good. Better with spacers, of course. No offense, but I really don't think those wheels would look good on an S30... But function wise...They work!!!! Remeber....Pit house! haha
  7. Congrats. My family and friends felt as you did after my basic training ceremony in Cape May, N.J. Basic brings the best out of people. Glad to hear he made it through. It is quite the accomplishment. Not everyone can do it. Being in the service is a very noble thing. I am so glad that I am serving!! Congrats again.
  8. This can't be the only S30 track / auto X videos..... Surely, someone has video of S30Z tearing it up. --Extra cool points for sideways shots!
  9. Z/R32 Brakes are awesome on lighter cars than they originally came on. It's a common swap in the 240SX tuning circles. Cheap, and effective. GTR33/34 Brakes were Brembos.....the BCNR33 ones differed from R34's. The 34 and Z33 brembos are the same. I'd like to get my hands on some of those. Wouldn't you? As far as rotors go. Search some of the silvia forums. Z32/JZA80/3000GT Rotors are commonly available pre drilled for 4x114.3. I forget which rotors are being used for the "all factory" type big brake set up. Either supra or 300gt.Big Rotor...12 or 13". I'll check my pc (fav/links) at home-at work right now. When I finally pick up an S30 I will definitely rock Z32 or better factory Nissan brakes.....I'm a nissan NERD. That should be enough explanation.
  10. Jmortensen- Great video. Love the car, especially seeing it sideways. The sound is amazing. Good stuff! More please. JohnC- Please post the video of the rusty old datsun. I love your car!!! Everything about it..... If it's not too much trouble, I can't be the only one that wants to see it. Even withouth sound...it would still be great!!!!
  11. Damn. Your car is so FRESH! I love it. I know that you built it to be an all rounder. But the only VIDEO I have seen of it so far, was dyno run and some highway cruising and launching. Can't wait to see footage from the autoX. Thanks for the pics. Now we're all a little more inspired.
  12. ProjectRB240sx: No worries. We all have those moments. SR240Z: When are you gonna post pics of your shop car at the track or AutoX? I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants to see it do more than go straight. I'd love to see some action footage. After all, the greatest advantage of the SR swap just MAY be the handling effects. ***I started a related thread in the NON tech forum
  13. Thanks for posting guys. I can't watch them right now. I'm at work. No car videos on the Military time! Anyway, I hope that this thread continues to grow. I just knew there were others that didn't want to watch Z cars go straight.
  14. (I searched and only came up with a few results, forgive me if I missed a similar thread) It seems as if video of S30's in action are rare. I'd love to see footage of Z cars at autoX, track days, rally and so on. (NOT DRAG) What do you say we start an official video thread...with links or whatever. I think it would be great, what do you all think? - If you got 'em, please post links Mods: I thought this would be the most appropriate section of the forum, I'll move it if I'm mistaken.
  15. Some of you may be a little misguided on SR tuning. It's so easy to make power. ...Think , SIMPLE It's all about the tuning. Most people in America go way overboard, never reaching the numbers they thought they would. S15 engines. You gotta be kidding me. Sure it's nice, new and makes the most power from the factory. S14 motors....why? The best part about these two motors is the turbine. VTC isn't that special. I mean, if you have the extra money, sure, why not. But most of us are all about the bang for the buck. So without further rant.... The SIMPLE way to make great power in a redtop S13 SR20DET.... - Bolt ons: Ex.Mani, Down pipe, catback, FMIC, intake, bov, Fuel pump, S15 factory injectors RNN14 GTiR T28BB, or S14/15 T28BB. (S15 specR has the BEST factory SR turbine, it's diff from lesser S15's) - RS Enthalpy tuned ECU + BOOST. What do you think this would put down???? How about a SOLID, 300WHP with matching TQ numbers. It's common in the world of Schassis tuning.
