  1. I don't think i'll be doing the whole chemical stripping thing. That's a pretty smart way of doing two different layers just to mark where you are at. Thanks !
  2. im half way done with stripping the paint. I think the only time i'll use the body shops is when i want to fix all my dents and to paint. I just want to prep the car for painting to save money. I was thinking about maybe bringing the whole front end piece by piece to get painted. Thanks!
  3. I'm currently removing my old paint on my 71 s30. The front end of the vehicle had really bad paint. So i used a 100 grit sander and i sand it down to the metal. Am i using the right grit ? I'm new at this and i'm just going what i know and winging it. I want to primer the whole vehicle and whenever i have extra money i want to paint my car black. Should i use black primer or grey primer ? Special tips would be greatfully appriciated. I'm located in Carmel Mountain in San Diego. Seeing someone local would be great since i'm new here. Chris
  4. Thanks guys you guys truly made me understand about body work. At this moment i am sanding down the car with a 3M stripper. I've done about 3 hours work so far and its only quarter of the hood. This stuff is no joke at all. Only the front end of the car has bad paint starting from the front window to the bumper and fenders. Everything else is good but should i just sand down the back part with 400 grit or continue stripping the paint to the metal ?
  5. Thanks guys for helping a newbie out. Yeah the paint is really bad and the car does have dents and some rust. I believe i might just take it down to the bare metal then fix the dents and primer it right after. I really don't want a shi*#y job, plus i love my car. There's nothing better than a little TLC with your love. I have one question though, how can i get rid of minor rust ? Should i shave it down then primer it ?
  6. I just bought 400 grit of sand paper and a block to hold it in place. So i started sanding it down while doing the cross movement. My paint is really bad and a whole lot of chips and cracks. It seems like the old paint is so rough and hard to smooth it down with 400 grit. Should i get a stronger grit to smooth it down or will it take off all the paint to the bare metal. Or should i just sand it down a bit and just spray primer on it ? I'm trying to primer it at this time till i get enough money to pay for a paint job. Please help ! I am a rookie at this stuff so i don't know what i'm doing. The only information i'm getting is from youtube. Chris
  7. I don't know where to post this but i was wondering if anyone have group meets in the bay area ? I live in San Leandro but i'm always in San Jose. I used to have an mr2 and we had meets every week or two and i was wondering if you guys do the same thing as well ? I recently picked up a 71 z and i would love to meet and talk to other z owners. If there are no meets are you guys willing to start one ? Chris
  8. How about a carbon fiber front grill? to match the carbon fiber buckets and fenders.
  9. I recently was given a 71 240z from my cousin. Its missing a driver side light bucket, driver fender needs to be replaced, it used to be an auto now its a stick but needs the plastic center trim. Also it need rugs. I also have a straight pipe to a flowmaster muffler that i want to get rid of or trade. So i also need either a new muffler or exhaust system. If you guys have any of these parts let me know. I live in the bay area so closer the better. You can also email me at cc_foronda@yahoo.com Thanks Chris
