  1. Is there anywhere in the US that supplies 87mm bore (+1.0mm) L28 Flat Top forged pistons?

Have tried searching the forums, but the response was huge.

I tried a google search of the net and got nothing of interest and the manufacturer's catalogues, Arias, Wiseco, JE etc don't appear to show a listing for them.

    Hope you can help.

    Cheers, Dennis

  2. Hi All,

Just searched Cam Specs and came up with nothing I don't have already.

I have 3 cams in my possession, an A probably the N42 L28E cam, an D cam, came out of an L20ET motor and would dearly love to know it's specs, as SWR in Oz is keen to get his hands on some and what I think is a custom grind as follows; It has 21511 C. K. or G. K. engraved on the end, along with M 290*, .315, 109*

    I'm guessing the 290* is duration, .315 is in/lift, & 109* is lobe separation.

I'm looking at building an plus 1.0mm (2818) L28ET motor for my Skyline, F54/P90, flat top pistons (8.7:1) got any suggestions on a recommendations for the cam to use?

    Cheers, Dennis

  3. I have just acquired a complete manual 280Z for FREE!

I want the motor and maybe the diff, but everything else is up for grabs and at the same price I got the car at, so if there is ANYTHING you need or want, PM me and get in at the ground floor.

    Cheers, Dennis

  4. Hi,

Have searched L28 Pistons without joy.

So I now ask the question, Where do you guys buy L28 plus .040 87mm flat top pistons, as we have only one source in Oz and that's SWR. His a straight cast pistons and with todays technology, one or I would think hypereutectic pistons must be available somewhere aqnd in USA I would also guess, be the best place to start looking.

    Cheers & thanks,

    Dennis

  5. If you pull the cap off you will find one of four possible interiors which do not change:

"Spiky Ringed Wheel" = Conventional Dissy, with "Black Box" on the exterior (or simply some wires if it's a 260/280Z)

"Nothing"= 81 ET dissy, needs the Airconditioner Bracket Mounted CAS unit for the ECU to function, it's only function is purely to DISTRIBUTE the spark.

"Chromate Cap with small screws"= 83/82 CAS Dissy Assy.

"Points and Rubbing Block"= RUN AWAY RUN AWAY RUN AWAY! Discard and replace with Lumenition, Perlux, or whatever you want but get rid of mechanical breaker points!

That's all you need to do for the quick check. No need to remove the chromated cover---if it's in there, it's a CAS. If it's just the diecast bottom of the dissy, it's somewhere other (81)

    Thanks Tony D,

But this is what I have.

The first pic shows what's under the cap, the rotor button is held on by a small screw as is the cap.

Second shows what's under the plate and third refers to a white plug. This is what is on the the dissy in the car, but I guess the leads are just swapped over (round plug lead for white square plug) eh!

Please tell me what I have got.

And the lead with the white square plug on it? Does this come in any 280ZX Turbo's, as it might be worth having a spare if it can be acquired.

    Thanks, D

  6. Hi All,

    Can anyone help me out?

I have a dilemma in that I'm trying to work out what model distributor I have.

I don't have the CAS mounted on the block, but also don't have what I would think to be the CAS on the distributor (black plastic box).

I can't see the part number without removing it from the car and I don't particularly want to disturb it right now.

I have a spare (out of L20et) that has a round 4 pin plug on it and I guess it's an early model (81) as an 81 CAS went on ebay recently and that had a lead with a similar plug on the end.

Does anyone have pictures of the 82/83 280ZX Turbo distributor, and the part number for referrence.

    Cheers, D

  7. I'm sure this has been discussed before, so maybe someone can point me to the answers.

Has the Megasquirt EM System been tried & tested on L6 engines?

I'm putting together an L28ET in Oz using F54, P90, flat top pistons, either 1.0mm or 3.0mm oversize, 460cc injectors, 60mm throttle body & hi flow VG30 turbo.

Will I need an a/mkt management system, or does/is the factory ECU capable of accepting the modifications.

    Cheers, D

  8. We have any number of late model L24 rods here in Oz due to us getting L24E motors in our early Skylines. I have a set that has been shot peened and linished that cost AU$250.00

    Cheers, D

  9. Who says you have to have 245/45's.

FI JUNKY- Will the whole car be "full built" like the motor or will you keep it close to stock with some minor cosmetic/performance changes.

    Well it's like this.

245/45 x 16 is the widest tyre available with same dynamic radius as the original tyres.

!7's and above get narrower & likewise with 15's.

But I guess for an outright racer like that driven by Paul Newman and Bob Sharp etc it's an all different ball game eh!

Do you guys have the OS Giken L series DOHC head in the US?

  10. Sorry! BUT!! Why would you want 600rwhp in an S130???

I have a 2 door KHR30 Skyline here in Oz and am building something similar here. My car weighs just 1200kg (2640lb) and having 245/45's on the rear I don't think I can successfully get more than 350HP to the ground.

Any more and I think you will have a wheel spinning monster that does nothing for good lap times.

    Cheers, D

  11. Did you guys get any Z31 300ZX's over there? I got both of my 0.63 T3s off them.

The Z31's we had here had a significantly larger rear housing than an .63 and it had ceramic ball bearings instead of the usual bush bearing.

I have 2 x VG30 turbos complete, but am trying to put together a stocky L28 ET style T03 for a friend doing a L24ET.

    Cheers, D

  12. Hi Guys,

In Oz these T03's do not exist.

I'm trying to source an 0.62/63 Exhaust Housing for a T03.

I'm pretty sure it was this size on your 280ZX Turbo L28ET and was wondering if someone had a spare rear housing, or a stuffed turbo I could buy.

    Thanks, Dennis

  13. Have you got a L28et in your r30 now?

    No George,

Just getting everything together for it now.

If you read some other posts, you will know I was lucky with the motor, as it only had to have the bores honed and put back together.

    Cheers,

    Dennis

  14. The crank and distributor mounted CAS components generate the same electrical signal. You can use either one with the 81 ECU you're running.

    Thanks Phil,

I was about to buy another ECU as the seller claims I need to have the later model due to it being the ECCS system, but the 81 is also ECCS correct?

    Cheers,

    Dennis
