  1. I'm in need of a good brake booster for a '71 or so Z. I don't know if there are major differences, and I don't know if mine is good, I'd just rather replace with a known good one. Appearance isn't a concern, as long as it works. I.e. rusty is fine. A Fairlady booster would be ideal, but not absolutely necessary. Cheers
  2. similar, very similar. my first Z was a 77 280z with a L28ET swap, green with tan interior, ugly as sin and we called it the green goblin...so there. Homage, I suppose.
  3. I haven't found a specific color code yet, but an extremely dark metallic green is what I've got my eye on. It's a toss up between an extremely dark green, or even black with a pearl green flake in the clear.
  4. Alright, mine was originally a nauseating shade of pastel yellow. Again, I'm not downing the color (I think), but it's not in my taste. So, green it is. Laugh. Cheers
  5. Excellent. Then I'm not doing in a rare car even more by painting it white or green or anything else.
  6. As a former resident of Tennessee, I can honestly say that about 70% of those that live there want far more than their cars are worth. For example, an individual I knew wanted 7000 dollars for a 99 Honda Civic hatchback with no engine or transmission. Back to topic, I searched "Z-Zap" on the forums and got nothing, but I have a couple things that you guys may or may not know... Color code for my car was 919, Sunshine Yellow. It's been repainted some sort of black (not a bad job, but needs a repaint). I'm not a fan of the color, and would prefer the orange ("New Sight Orange, 918). My interest in the color's rarity is pretty much academic at this point. After several seconds of mulling it over, I've decided to say to hell with factory-spec restoration, it's converted to RHD anyway, resto-mod is the way to go for me. That said, thanks for any input, and if you guys find something, as I said, it's an academic interest now, so by all means, discuss! I'm interested to know.
  7. I've got a '71 240Z and I stumbled across an ebay auction where the seller asserts that the yellow (black car was originally yellow, rare find, such as that) was rare. My Z was yellow, and although I'm not impressed in the slightest with the color, (no offense to those with yellow cars, it's just not my thing), I'd keep it that color if it's actually rare. Any thoughts?
  8. I'm just going to go that route, I think. I'll get the L24 running and just go with it for a while. The car's down for a while for some minor restoration work, rust repair, yadda yadda, so I'm not in a huge hurry. Thanks for the info!
  9. So it seems. The engine was running at one point, but the guy that owns it is notoriously bad on his cars, so I'm almost certain that the engine will need to be rebuilt. The turbo has likely had it as well. Are there any top-feed injector rails out there for L28ETs? I have a set of 440cc injectors from my Supra that I'm not using, and the car is missing both the injectors, ECM, and airflow meter. *EDIT* Sorry, just remembered to add this. I have a Toyota Supra as well, and I have enough parts to build five engines (7MGTE), as well as wiring harnesses, coilpacks, blah blah, all the stuff to build a pile of working engines. So my question is thus: 7MGTE or L28ET? Both will cost around the same. *EDIT #2* Forgot to mention, I have an L24 w/ E31 head...not sure of the block, but it shows good compression across the board. That said, new/revised recommendations?
  10. Oh, so you know Johnny, right? He had that Fairlady for a good while before finally selling it...you remember the Green Goblin? Bucket of laughs, that car. Yeah, the carbs are 4 stud USDM models. I'm not sure what car they came from. The Z didn't have carbs, but had an air cleaner, so I'm suspecting Joseph removed the carbs and tossed the spacers... I've found a nearly complete 280ZX Turbo for 200 dollars locally, and I'm considering a swap. Recommendations?
  11. I bought mine from a guy in Pearl named Joseph, and I think the Fairlady came from a guy named "Steven", though I could be mistaken. For the record, it's not really a Fairlady, per se. The car's a USDM 240Z, '71 model, with Shelby slotted mags. The original Fairlady was a '74 or so, if memory serves, and was extremely badly rusted. It was a 2+2. Anyway, the long and short of it is that I used everything from the Fairlady on my 240Z shell. I'm unsatisfied with the fact that I have a series 2 dash in a series 1 car, and a few other things but I can't complain too much, I suppose. Back to carbs, my engine is an L24, uses the SUs with four screws (flat tops?), and doesn't appear to have coolant running through or near the carb mounting pads. I'll check again, but I dont recall seeing anything like that. Will the pads be year specific, or will I need to match them to the linkages on my engine? Thanks for the help. Cheers
  12. Hey, guys. I'm not terribly familiar with the L24's SU carbs, and carburetion in general, and I was wondering: Are the two black carburetor spacers between the L24/L26 intake manifold and carburetors necessary, and if so, does anyone know where I might find a set? I've checked several online parts sources with no luck, and I'm just about ready to chop a couple out of some steel or aluminum. I'm prepping a Toyota 7MGTE for my car, and this is really just a way to get the car serviceable until I get ready to actually drop the engine in, so if anyone has an alternative, a zero dollar thing would be great. Just for the record, we have no appreciable emissions requirements in MS, nor do I think (and correct me if I'm wrong) that my Z would be required to pass if there WERE emissions. But you guys already know that. Any help would be great! Cheers
  13. I looked up the thread with those photos and it seems the webhost has moved. I wasn't aware that the 5MGEs had HG problems too! I have a 7MGTE in my Supra and I solved the BHG problem with ARP head studs and an HKS MLS head gasket. A friend of mine has suggested mating the 5MGE head and the 7MGTE block (I have five...) for better flow, as the 5M was engineered exclusively as an N/A head. I'm not sure if the flow numbers support that claim, since I don't have a flow bench anymore, but it'd be interesting to see. I considered a 5M/7M (called 6M by most) with carburetors or mechanical injection and individual coils to do away with the distributor. Likely sheet metal or machined billet valve covers as well. I think it'd probably go really well with the car in terms of the whole "look".
  14. Ahh, so for practical purposes, this is unattainable for a personal Z, unless I had a huge block of aluminum and a REALLY good friend with a 5 axis CNC machine. *EDIT* After a few minutes of research (apologies), I have discerned that this particular engine is a Prince GR-8 from, as you said, the Prince R380-II. This engine is very similar to the earlier R380's engine, save for the engines saying "Nissan" instead of "Prince" as they did in the earlier car. It's really interesting, though academic, I think, as the engines were only for race cars and as such, are likely all but impossible to get. Pity. I suppose I'll have to look to the Toyota 5MGE...I really like the odd splayed cam covers. *EDIT* again... The info on that engine can be found here.
  15. Apologies for zombifying the thread, but at the risk of looking/sounding like an idiot, what is this??? I'm sort of guessing an L28 w/OS Giken head, but...i'm not sure. lol. I'm a horrible fan of nostalgia, and this just oozes nostalgic, so if it's possible to have, I definitely want one...Thanks in advance. See below:
  16. 71 Fairlady Z + 7MGTE!
