  1. cool, so if its just an "S31" its a 2 seater. later than 76. thanks mate
  2. i've been looking through a series of grey import fairlady Zs from japan. they seem to be in decent nick for their age etc. but the thing that gets me is that they are marked as an S31 chassis (either GS31 or GS30). now i thought i read somewhere that the "G" was something to do with the right hand drive market designation. but then what was the difference between the "30" and the "31" chassis. and was it just a difference with the JDM specifications and the fact that these S31 models had a 2000cc engine instead. cheers all. pitty
  3. fair nuff, i thought the cerbera and the chimaera had a lot more in common, but hey.
  4. Daimler/jaguar also made a 2.5L v8 up until the early 70's which was in the old sovereigns and the xj precursor.
  5. the ferrari f40 was a 2.4L TT. and the rover v8s (not buick related, but the ones that the earlier Tvrs like the chimaera and cerbera engines were based on) was in its smallest for destroked to 3.1 litres i think.
  6. try sourcing the buick 3.8 from here in oz. it was produced in the holden commodore for like 20 years, so hwe have an absolute glut of them. the pick of the bunch is the factory supercharged model which came out in 1996 i think it was. a very strong engine. ive seen a guy round my area (west coast, perth) who has done a twin turbo convert on the 3.8 ecotec, sounds amazing going by, especially when you see that its a twin turbo station wagon..
  7. i live in perth , and one of my mates runs a 260z with l28 at barbagello rcaeway. He and his dad have spent about 8 or 9k on the car so far (engine and body), so the l28 option doesnt really sound like a financially viable option to me hey. just for interests sake i though that it should be said that the rover v8 isnt that bad as it did power more than half of the 1990s TVRs, with displacements ranging from 3.5 to 4.3 in the cerberas and chimaeras. but id still go with the 1uz. is it really just that easy to hooki it up to a supra 5 or 6 speeder?
  8. bigbaz i have no idea about the engine i a zed, but there is a guy in melbourne who has fabbed at twin turbo kit for the 5.7 gen 3. he heas it in a 2002 monaro, so no doubt there is a lot mor room in it than in the z32. but the conversion has been done on the motor at least
  9. what has been the latest on this engine, did any of the guys wind up putting it in a zed?? cos theoretically it should fit right?
  10. The other very important thing IMO is the sound. my mate has a 308 in his VN (i think) commodore ute and it sounds amazing, just the right amount of rumble and roar. the 350 (5.7) just seems so soud too hydraulic to me. it has the rumble, but just not the sense of occasion. Id still buy the 350 cos its a stronger engine, but the 308 sounds so damn good!!!

    6speed trans?

im not sure if this is what the guy mentioned above, but the s15 silvia had a six speeder but that was mated to a 4cyl. but it would be significantly lighter than the t56. i dont think any of the skylines r32 to r34 (bar the gtr) were available with six speeders. another expensive exercise, but could u modify a gtr gearbox????
  12. well kinda i spose. it is a really sweet engine, and as was said earlier, it had to be tuned back because it originally was a more viable option than the also locally built V8s. its a 4L unit, and apparently is gonna be placed in the new ford territory, which is an awd suv that we have over here. its based on the falcon architecture and pretty much took over form the imported for explorer and escape. that latter of which was pretty dodgy anyway. and remember the last time us aussies came up with a great car (the monaro), u guys decided it needed to be rebadged as a pontiac gto. and the brits luvd it too and badged it as the vauxhall monaro vxr. i wonder if FPV is having any thoughts of US expansion?!?!
  13. i cant for the life of me find a tranny wieght for the ZF, but i do know that it is lighter than the t56, i think there was a major use of aluminium in the tranny, but im not too sure hey. its also used in the jags as well as bmws as the standard auto transmission. its a huge jump for aussie made cars though, as most of the cars made here, until the new mitsu came out and now the new falcon, were 4 speed slushers.
  14. from my mate with a rb25det r33, it doesnt go through too much gas. but like any turbo, if ya keep it off boost then it wont be any where near the usage of the V8. example another mate has a 180sx (in the us its a 240) and if he doesnt wind it up too much, he can almost mathc the mileage of my holden astra (1.8L 4cyl)
