  1. Now, I have done this in auto shop 8 years ago, so it's been a while. Overall I have made 11 new brake line connections on the car. I double flared all the lines like I remember doing back in high school. When I finished the not so small project, I started to bleed the brakes. I then noticed that the lines were leaking! Not in just one spot, but all 11 connections! Every one of them were leaking through the top of the fitting, between the fitting and the hose, and yes they were tightened. I felt like crying, and I'll tell you why later in this post. I then, thinking that I had done something wrong while flaring, checked the instructions the came with my flaring tool kit. I had done everything word for word! This is what I did, 1. chamfered end to be flared, also deburred inside of tube. 2. slid fitting on, of course. 3. clamped on flaring bar to tube at correct reveal of the tube and tightened down untill it couldn't be tightened any further. 4. Put the double flare piece into the tube. 5. Put the flaring tool onto the flaring bar and tightened down untill the double flaring tool contacted the flaring bar. 6. I then did the second part of the double flare. Now, the directions say that the tube shouldn't slide out of the flaring bar, but in #5, the tube always did slide out of the flaring bar when I tightened down the flaring tool. The result were flares looking like the ones on the store bought brake lines with the fittings on them allready. I had to cut off all of my flares, which was not fun. I then, AGAIN double flared the lines, making sure they all looked just right and perfect. Installed the lines on my car, and started to bleed the brakes. 4 connections leak! What the FUC# am I doing wrong? I don't want to tighten down the fittings any more, for fear of stripping them, which allready happened on one fitting. Would someone be able to tell me what might be happening? I can't keep doing this. Now, I'll tell you why I almost shed tears. For the last two and a half months I have had something called "Thoracic Outlet Syndrome". This may be due to a motorcycle accident almost two years ago. Here is the short of it, I broke my right clavicle (collar bone) in the accident, it didn't heal at all, and had a steel plate installed w/ 6 screws to keep me together. Lately, scar tissue has built up underneath the break resulting in pinched off arteries and nerves leading to my arm. Any position other than straight down by my side makes my whole arm go dead. It hurts like hell and is a pain to deal with when your arm doesn't work when you want it to. It's extremely frustrating. I may have to have my top rib removed, because that is where everything is getting pinched between, the scar tissue and the top rib. Anyway, I had to vent, and now you know why I wanted to cry. !M!
  2. I would like to thank everyone for helping me. I finally found an adapter to screw into the '82 caliper after countless phone calls and visits to shops. It was found at a radiator specialty shop a few miles from here. I even plumbed in my Wilwood prop. valve. I just need to bleed the brakes and make sure there is no leaks. Man, what a pain in the ass! Something so simple can take up so much time. Looking back on how I worded my initial post, nowonder it took so long to get a reply. I was just franticly typing words because I was stuck. I'm one of those people that once I start something, I wont stop 'till I finish. Now, it's MGD time for me!
  3. I know that the hard line will not fit into the caliper, that's a given, it has nothing to seal to. The brass fitting that you mentioned, where did you get it? I have been to many, many parts stores, but still nobody has a brass fitting that screws into the caliper that has a large enough hex to be used with a crush washer. They all say it is a pipe fitting not a brake fitting even though I brought in the caliper and brake line to be used. AHHHH! I need a fitting that is 10mm x 1.0 pitch with a large hex to seat against a crush washer against the caliper and the top of the fitting will be a female port with a convex protrusion at the bottom of the port to accept a 3/16" flared steel brake line. That line will then run to my stainless steel braided brake line. I can then drive my car. Anybody know where I can get this fitting? !M!
  4. What do you mean ISO? How did you get a fitting to go into the caliper and seal? No parts store anywhere has anything for this. I have tried to use a hard line from the caliper to the braided hose but nothing will seal to the '82 caliper.
  5. I have done everything for the rear disc brake upgrade on my '73. I have stainless steel braided brake lines for my '73. My problem is, how the heck do you get the stainless steel braided brake lines made for the '73 to connect to the '82 caliper? There is no adaptor for this! I even had the NAPA guys stumped for over an hour. I tried to make my own adaptor but, it leaks. It was a metric bolt 10mm 1.0 pitch that threaded into the caliper and had a nut in the middle of it. There was a hole drilled through the middle of the bolt and at the top of the home made adaptor was a tappered hole to accept the lines from the '73. The design was taken from someone on this forum or HybridZ.org. It was a good design, just can't make it seal right. Now I'm thinking that I may have to get stainless steel braided brake lines for the '82, then find a way to make them fit to the hard lines on my '73. I really do not want to do this. I will have spent over $150 on brake lines then! Many of you have done this swap, how did you get the lines to connect? I need my car to be mobile by tonight! HELP!!!! !M!
  6. Why are the Maxima brackets so hard to get? I went to the local Nissan dealer and got two brackets for $46 each. The parts guy said there is no problem with getting the brackets. I remember hearing someone say that the brackets were being discontinued, hmm... It was easier buying new, rather than finding the right Z in a junk yard around here. !M!
  7. If you are, I have two buddies that are going down there. My one guy has a GN powered '64, fresh Pontiac GTP blue paint, tinted windows, roll cage, he say's he will be in the high nines with his new setup this year. My other guy has a '87 GN with a few go fast goodies on it. I wish I could be down there this year, so many parts! Cool cars! Anyways, if you were going, it would be cool if they could get a couple of shots of your car. I have them taking shots and getting video of Derek Grubb's GN powered '73, when they go down there. I just want to see how you guy's did your setup, and see what's best. Just getting idea's. My swap has been delayed for a little bit, due to little time. I would like to see your engine mounts and how you mounted your tranny. I am also having one hell of a time finding a '87-'89 R200 LSD! You wouldn't believe how many places I have called and how many places I have went to. Still no deal. I have found one though, yeah, in Ohio, for $375 plus $100 shipping . This bites. Let me know.
  8. How far along? Not very. I still have to put in the engine. I have a lot of work ahead of me. My goals for now is to get the engine and transmision into the car, get the suspension, rear end (R200 LSD), CV's, brake upgrade, ect.. Just starting out. I hope to have everything done within two months. Still need to get a new turbo (stock), and get a wiring harness made up by Casper. Next summer is when I plan to play with the car. I want to take it to the drag strip, and road race it. I hope to be faster than the high bucks cars. I guy I know has a turbo TA, he took it to Elkarht Lake and spanked a few Porsches' and Ferrari's. All he had done was a 3 inch exaust, chip, injectors, fuel pump upgrade, and K&N filter. Sounds like my kind of fun. Spending under 10 large for the car, drivetrain and suspension, and being faster than exotics, makes me smile from ear to ear. How many of these GN-Z's are out there? So far I know of 5 in the states and one in Canada running 9's. ------------------ That's a what with a what in it?
  9. Yeah, I'm in the process of doing the swap right now. I'm in Milwaukee, WI. A friend of mine turned me to the GN swap. Made more sense to do the Buick swap then the V-8. Scottie, you should put more pictures on your web site. I would love to see every nook and cranny on your car. Mat Wandsneider !M! ------------------ That's a what with a what in it?
