That's pretty nice! About the same as I will do to mine, but with two twelves. No, I'm not putting two twelves in that small enclosure, just using the additional space provided by the spare tire well for the enclosure, so the false floor isn't so high. Out of curiosity, what did you figure the cubic feet of the spare tire well to be after the fiberglass was in? !M!

What spring rates is everyone using on their L powered 240Z and what do you use your car for (street, track, 1320)? I say L powered, because my car will weigh about the same as a non-hybrid Z. I need to find out before this Friday the 11th, so Mike Gibson can send out my coilovers. I will have Tokico 5-ways to go with the coilovers. I was thinking now, maybe 225lb. in front and 250lb. or 275lb. in the rear. Is this about right? My car will be seeing about 80% street and 20% track/1320. Any help is appreciated. !M!

My intent with my Z was to through a V-8 in the sucker, but then my buddy who's into Buicks, said he will sell me a '87 GN engine and tranny for $1k for my 240Z. Couldn't pass up a deal like that! Not to mention having one hell of a sleeper sounds pretty cool to me. Another plus is it's more quiet than a V-8, that is IF it's muffled right (not an attention get'r, keeps the cops happy). !M!

Thanks for the reply Terry. I'm going to hold off for some wider wheels. 17x9 rear, 17x8 in front sounds good to me. What size tires would be good for the 9" and 8" wheels while still letting the fronts go lock to lock without rubbing? 245/40 rear, and 235/40 or 225/40 in front may work well, I think. Do I have the correct series? Would it be 40 or 45? Or is it my preference (taller tire?)? Just trying to get everything right before I buy anything. I am just seeing how wide I CAN go. If you can, then why not? !M!

WOW! Nice wheels! I love the looks of those. !M!

ShelbyZ is selling some 17x7.5 wheels and I would really love to get them. My question is, I want a 245 wide tire in the rear, and can you mount a 245 wide tire on a 7.5" wide wheel? Now, lets see if I can word this right, how much is cornering affected by running the same size tire on a 7.5" wide wheel compared to a 8" or 9" wide wheel? I'm thinking that a smaller size (not as wide) wheel will have more slop (for lack of better words) side to side compared to a wider wheel. My car will see track days, so cornering well is a must. Should I hold off and get some wider wheels? I really do need the biggest tire I can fit in the rear with the amount of power I'll be putting down to the road. I think I worded this right, I'm a bit loopy (today's my B-day!), had to wet my whistle (had a few to many Fosters) with a few buddies earlier. !M!

Reading 240zinPHX's excitementover the 250, I remembered last year a guy I know that has one got T-boned at about 25mph by a stupid woman in a Dodge Shadow, she blew a red light. Yes, it is a real 250 GTO. The first words out of his mouth were ,"You better have good insurance." He also has an F-40, some rare race car with a V-12 open exaust and a VERY small winshield (1 of 3 built), and a few other Ferrari's and he drives them all on the street (no kiddin'). He's a really nice guy and drives his F-40 everywhere, and I mean everywhere. He beats the hell out of it. Takes it to Elkahrt Lake sometimes, just to have fun. Man, I wish I had money like that. You don't even want to know how much it costs to do JUST a brake job on a F-40. !M!

Just wanting to see if you guys are still doing the swap or not. If you are, any updates for us hybrid lunatics? I would love to see how things are going. !M!

Oooohhh, I like that idea! Sounds like it would be a fun project. You don't have to use the radiator from the Buick. You can use whatever you want to use, just as long as it's capable of cooling the motor. As long as you have the choice of picking out the parts that you need from the GN, then grab EVERYTHING! You would not believe how much any of the pieces of a GN or Turbo Regal can go for, it's unreal. You can go to a swap meet or even go online and put, lets say a dash or bucket seats from these Buicks for an outrageous price, and believe it or not, someone will pay. With parts being discontinued and just the availability of parts being pretty bad (for a decent price that is), I say grab what you can. Wait, were you the one that had the chance to buy the motor out of a '85 or '86? Anyways, you will need the harness and computer. When you pull them, lay out the harness on the floor. Inspect it VERY carefully for cuts in the insulation and sniped wires, this will alleviate any headaches down the road. The way you spelled enough reminds me of my liscense plate that I have to take off of my Z, because I'm getting collector plates. My plate is HAD E NUF, it's either a statement or a question. !M!

I need to get spring rates for my coilovers, so I have to figure out how much I will be adding to the front end of my Z compared to a stock Z. From what I gathered, the Buick V-6 with the turbo and trans. weighs around 560 lbs., give or take a few. What I haven't been able to find is how much the engine and trans weighs from a stock Z. Anyone know? Scottie, maybe you could help me out. What rates are you running? My car will see 80% street, 20% track (raod course/1320). I will have a full interior and a hefty stereo in the rear. In the future, I will put air conditioning in, but I don't know yet if I should go ahead and buy a higher rate spring just because I am going to add more weight down the road. Any help would be great. !M!

I think it's all a personal thing to you. I guess it all depends on you style to go fast. I love the '70-78 body styles myself, but that's just me. Yeah, a 6-71 stick'n out of the hood would be pretty bad @ss in your '77 , but then a quad turbo setup in your '86 would be pretty sweet . I would personally take the lighter of the two and make it look good and be quick. Oh yeah, nice Monster! Gota love those V-twins! !M!

Terry, what happens if you get into a crash and you car flips? Will the gas gush out inside your car, or would you have a check valve installed in the filler tube? I don't think foam will keep it from leaking out, fumes sure, but gallons of gas? Just wondering, trying to be safety minded. Sounds like a cool idea though. Be wierd to see a gas cap on the hatch of a Z. !M!

Never heard of Hyperco springs, but I can get them in a very wide range of spring rates (from 85lbs-1000lbs) and 8-12" lenghts, 2.5" ID. Anyone heard anything good about these? You can also get them in 2.25" ID. All spring rates and lengths are $133.99 for a pair. Is this a good price? I would like to get my coilovers done over christmas. Oh yeah, they say the springs are made with 9254 Silicon steel, and are finished with epoxy powder coat. !M!

There's a guy with a '96 Integra LS with the air ride suspension where I keep my car. The company that did it was from Chicago. They came up here, flatbed his car down there, installed the suspension and brought it back for a little more than $3k. He admits, the ride is horrible, but his car is just for shows, so he doesn't care. Also, the tanks and all the other stuff takes up a lot of space, and when the thing operates, it's pretty loud. I would say, it's not for our cars. !M!

Does anyone know the bolt circle and number of splines on the turbo ZX CV's? I found some that are "Heavy-Duty" and "Heavy-Duty, lightened and honed". These CV's are 6 bolt, 78mm bolt circle, and 33 tooth spline. Could we get these to work? Maybe for the R230 swap? If not for the CV mod, then for anything else? Heavy-Duty is $78.50 and Lightened and Honed are $114.74. Just thought I might have found something usefull. !M!

Q's for Ross C, 5 lug RW adaptor
CruxGNZ replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Ross, could your adaptors to go from 4 to 5 lug, be used for high horse power/high torque cars? I'm not sure about any kind of adaptors yet. Are adaptors for FWD wheels and the proposed 4 to 5 lug adaptor suitable for most any kind of vehicle? !M! -
optimal size tire for 17x9's
CruxGNZ replied to z ya's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Do you have coilovers? Fender flares? I think 255's are a straight sidewall too with a 9" wheel. I'm guessing you have coilovers unless you are using a different backspacing with flares if you are going over 255's. I don't have my 17's yet so I couldn't help you with the looks part for the tires, but the way I see it, is if you can fit more meat under there, go for it. You will just be loosing a little performance with the side wall flexing during cornering. Am I right? Can someone else chime in and give their 2 cents too? !M! -
home made subframe need help
CruxGNZ replied to chucky's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I couldn't help you with your question, but I'm in Milwaukee, where the heck is Fitchburg? I also went for the Buick swap. If you are close by, we should get together for a beer or something. Mat !M! -
energy suspension products
CruxGNZ replied to John Greenslade's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I bought from them too. Very good service and fast delivery. Great people to do business with! !M! -
Scotty, what year engine is it that you are looking at? Depending on year, some came non-intercooled and less refined than the stock '87 engine. !M!
-
Hey all. Scottie, good idea. This is kinda cool to see who's behind the names. You can check me out if you like at: http://profiles.yahoo.com/triphopin Hey Lone, nice dew! !M!

Scotty, that engine you speak of is way too expensive! You better give me the information on where to find the person responsible for selling that engine at that price, and I'll take care of him. Just play'n, but you would be nuts not to buy that engine for $500, just as long as it's not a pre-'87 powerplant. A running engine alone brings in around $2-3K, depending on condition and mods. !M!

73BOTIZ, where were you about five months ago? I got the Maxima brackets from my local dealer for $54.33 each (could have got them cheaper if I told them I was in a club of some sort). Your price is very nice. By the way the dealer that I got them from said that there is no shortage on the "adapter caliper" (Maxima) brackets. I have refered a few people to this dealership with the same results as I. They have a bunch of them, but I will not say where now, because there are a few guys on here that are trying to make an honest buck. !M!

Control Arm Update 10-1-01
CruxGNZ replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Just curious, how does the wieght of the new adjustable control arm compare to the stock control arm? Lighter would be great, but a weight penalty would be worth it, because of the adjustability. Hmm, I just remembered seeing a post from you saying that those suckers are heavier than first thought. Some numbers would be cool anyways. !M! -
Wow, thanks guys for the kind words! When I flared the lines, a couple of them were off center just a hair when looking into the line. Maybe that's why they leaked. Tomorrow I will really crank down on those lines I made and if that doesn't work, then I will buy pre-made lines from the parts store and coil them up if they are to long. It wont look pretty under there but it will work right. Man, what a pisser this project was. I was supposed to have the car back in it's garage a few days ago, not in the driveway up on jack stands. On the plus side, I know my Z's braking system very well. I think I will return my flaring kit, no point in having it if the flares it makes don't work well. I bought it from Sears and I don't think it's a cheap import, it's pretty hefty, even though it's made in Taiwan. On a side note, I'm not a big baby. I have a VERY high tollerance for pain. I have ruptured my spleen completely in half, crashed a few motorcycles, ripped my leg right open, broke my ankle, busted my thumb, tweaked my wrist, broke a toe or two, had well over 100 small but deep cuts on my face from a sheet of thin ice, the list keeps going. This is just an annoyance pain. It's allways there and hurts like hell. This will not heal on it's own like some other injuries. It will just keep getting worse. I am curious about that tea though, that tae-bo (or whatever it was called ) tea. I just have to get this car back on the ground before it rains tommorow night. Most of you must think I'm an old fart or something with old age kicking in. Nope, I'm 25 and build houses for a living. I have to find another job, I'm allways injured and can't perform well at work. Well, Building Inspector, here I come. Thanks again guys. !M!
