  1. Well since I have this posted on other forums I figure what the heck ill post it on here, since im on here a lot now.

Yea thats right Kenny' date=' I just ripped off your title :P

    Here is my build thread.

In the beginning of October 2011 I brought my first s30. As stated in my previous thread this is a non-running 1976 280z that I brought, which needs some loving.

    The run down:

    1976 280z

Its silver on blue and black interior.

I got the toyota 4x4 calipers with the 84 z31 rotors.

Worst thing is it sat for 10 years, all im planning on doing is:

    1) Clean the HELL out of it. (did that)

    2) Replace ALL the hoses on everything. (replaced a few most seem to be amazing, inside and out. I have some on the side just in case, they are easy to get too. The ones that arent I will replace.)

    3) Drain EVERY FLUID on the car. The motor oil is 10 years old and BLACKER THAN BLACK. There was some brake fluid in the MC but not much and it was shot. (drained and replaced the Clutch master and slave cylinder. Soon replacing the Master cylinder with the 15/16 280zx one.)

    4) After draining all the fluid, add the 4 piston toyota calipers and the z31 na rotors to the front, and find a rear disk set up. (im thinking the maxima set up, any advise would be cool. Im thinking about doing it AFTER I get the z running. The fronts still need the spacers, adaptors and brake pads. The rears need the rear conversion kit and the 240sx calipers.)

    5) after the brake set up bleed everything (I plan on doing it more than once to clean it out good), brakes and bench bleed the clutch. (Already bled the clutch and feels so much stronger)

6)Paint the roll cage black (I dont like the rusted look LOL) Its SCCA appproved soo its a wicked roll cage the welds are orgasmic haha! (Cut the knee bar because that was a pain literally. Thinking about painting it a midnight blue now, considering I cant powder coat it.)

    7) Replace battery, seeing if the tail lights work well, and probably getting better headlights.

    8) Get an exhasut since its running right from the exhaust manifold! (My exhaust manifold is said to be better than the headers they offer, but might get headers because they are new and lighter. Not looking to spend if I wont gain anything though.)

    9) Tires for the panasports, and better lug nuts. 205/15 fronts, 225/15 rears

    10) MSA front bumper with the 240z turn signals, MSA carbon fiber spoiler, and ZG flares.

    11) MAYBE a radio, the car has almost no luxuries, so not sure if I want to even put in a better radio or anything. (zune works well for me, and it has a cassette player)

    12) Fix the window, it some how feel off track. (Fixed, but I need key for the locks of the car.)

    13) DRIVE THE PHUCK OUT OF IT! (most likely will be in the spring)

    What the guy said:

76 280z California rust free car(Coupe) it has full coil over suspension and 4 wheel camber plates to adjust the suspension. (IT IS SLAMMED TO THE FING FLOOR)

    v

It sits lower than a 240Z and should handle like a slot car .

Toyota 4 piston calipers and rotors for the front brake upgrade and 15 inch Pannasports.

Its silver with black interior and has a full roll cage and comes with Vintage SCCA log books if you ever wanted to go racing its vintage eligible. (Tried researching for "Becks ultra high performance or anything like that but came up empty. I would love to speak with the owner.)

It Was an ITS car (improved Touring ) so it still has all of its street equipment and was never cut up or gutted or wrecked just the carpet was removed, has about 3 little dents but nothing major.

The full dash wipers lights door panels everything is all there.

    2 brand new racing seats

It still has its original L28 motor that was rebuilt to stock specs and still has its original fuel injection & 4sp manual transmission .

Pics when I first go it:

Now some progress that has been done:

Took the disgusting bumper shock absorbers off. Did a bit of cleaning and dropped the intake+exhaust manifold, gas tank, and tranny. Looking to pull the motor to make life easier.

Still havent ordered anything, but this is how she sits right now:

^ Got some cleaning to do.

    010.jpg

^Looks can be deceiving! This little bugger weighs alot more than I thought! I would say upwards of 25lbs.

    013.jpg

^ SO light, its very nice and well built.

    014.jpg

^Brought another 76 gas tank, which are RARE, but turns out it had a pin hole leak. Decided what the hell, and will restore my tank instead since it it nicer.

    015.jpg

^ I think the "withdrawl lever", the metal spring type thing might be bent out of shape.

    017.jpg

^ Clutch looks to be in place lol.

    018.jpg

    019.jpg

^ The only rust spots on the z. One of which is from scrapping the pavement, the other is a common area. In which the drain gets clogged, both are easy to fix and not serious.

    024.jpg

^ Took out the stupid knee bar, looks much better. The roll cage is SO tight ti the body, that the driver side rood liner is melted from the rubbing friction against the cage.

    Thats all for now! Thanks

  2. Awesome stuff man! Really turning that z around :) LOVE the hayashi racing :D That sir was a good find. Love that you are sandblasting everything, makes me want to do it to my car to clean it up real well.

Question the pic of the megan coilovers. Whats your plan with that? Im interested in seeing whats going to happen with that.

  3. Looking for some 74-78 tail lights that are the EURO tails. Red on amber, I would like both sides and in good to excellant condition. Please send pics and maybe a price to makaofox@hotmail.com I would pay for shipping if it looks to be worth it. Locals would be great too.

Looking for the chrome bezel for the PASSANGER side, if you have one let me know as well. My driver side is in excellant condition, so I need a great to excellant condition piece.

  4. Love it!! Looks flippen fantastic man, the wheels are the best of course. The stance is just spot on, I think a 16in wheel would fill it in perfectly or even spacers like 38mm in the rear and 25 in the front with the zg flares. Looks amazing right now though. Definitely will shape up to an amazing z (is if it wasnt already :3 ).

  5. Look around most people have done this already. Search there is a ton of good info out there. I know having the EGR crap sucks but its not easy going simple lol. A shaved bay and tucked wires has its fair share of work. I searched this a while back and since my z has no ac, heat or even a motor, im going to search and see what can be cut down. Your main concern would be relocations and tucks, not so much deleting everything. I'll try to pull up a few threads that I have found.

  6. ^ LOL so much faith in him. Good call though, I started out with a nice 93 300zx na and my dad trusted me (was 17), I never fooled around, I knew what was at stake. Shame he smashed up the front end but luckily he is safe and the z looks to be in good shape. Just the hood and fender need preplacing hopefully. Im sure now he know's how to judge such a situation, **** happens though. Good luck with the repairs, I hope she ends up more beautiful than before!

  7. I never really understood this. Who cares what the VIN is? Does it make any functional difference to the car? If anything, it simply means that the car has had fewer iterations of development and improvement than others. I fail to see how that is more valuable.

    Dave

I have seen #13 and to have the first street production z means ALOT! The owner decided to restore it as is and let me tell you, I get a funny feeling down in my pants. To have a low vin means alot as its the start of something great. A buddy has #34 and I think #42 or something like that and its cool that they are still around. I mean when it comes to sports car's and cars that are no longer on the road like they used to be, a vin matters. If you have the first honda civic, ok big whoop but if you have the first nsx now thats cool. I guess it adds a value depending on the community of the car. And in the z community low vin's are cool and worth something than a 260z or 280z.

  8. ^ So much hate! Can you pm me that info? Like where the kit is and how to section the tubes? I know s13 coils get low and are a similar set up to the z, compared to the civic coils which arent as similar. You z is still low one way or another lol.

Adam what is your power goals? Since its going on the track im assuming not 1000hp lol.

  9. ^ You wouldnt be the first but it certainly isnt well documented. I know of specialty z's 280zx with the vg30dett. Having had a z32tt and getting a 280z, the first issue will be clearance. The vg is a wide motor, and you might have issues with the strut towers. Second most likely will be a combo of the height and oilpan clearance. Once you get passed that I think setting up the intercooler piping might be tough but the swap should be doable. The worst thing is you will have alot of weight up front, being compact I would hope the motor wont throw off the steering too much.

  10. If I were you, I would get a motor for the gs. For several reason 1 is that its newer, it has more space for anything like girls or more importantly food lol. My actual main reason is that in bad weather whether it is rain, sleet, snow, ice do you really want to be driving a 2400lbs car that crushes like a tin can? The gs is a tank and frankly if someone crashes into a gs who cares you will get another. But if someone crashes into your z, its done all that hard work wasted and its not easy finding a replacement. I plan to DD my 280z but my 280z has much much much more reinforement than a 240z and I put a 10pt roll cage. You also have to remember the difficulties of a 30+ year old car, sometimes it will say hey phuck you I dont want to go anywhere and not start. Basically have the gs as your dd and save alot more to get yourself a project s30. Not saying 240z's arent DD material because they sure as hell can be but you have a good choice. I dont know where you live but over here people dont give a crap about your car and will hit it purposely to fit into the parking spot, or swing the door wide open and hit your car because they are so FAT.

  11. First off, cosmetics is real simple. You want to look like austins zed no problem. All you gotta do is buy 240z turn signals (perhaps on ebay someone may have them) or source them out if possible in Ireland. Its pretty simple but you might have to get a new air dam that has the 240z slots to house the turn signals. The wiring should be the same or similar.

Try searching the site it has plenty of resources. That z looks magnificent, I would buy it and spend some money on the parts you need. You can easily sell your old parts as well.

Plenty of people have done what you have, get the turn signals, the air dam, and you should be set :) Hopefully a 260z owner with the conversion can chime in. Im going to do the same for my 280z, all I need is the air dam and turn signals.
