  1. no not yet. i'm going to work on making my plenium first. then i will look into the larger throttle body. then i will be building my exhaust system. i'm going to use 3" stainless steel on the exhaust as well and an ebay muffler. i'm planning ahead for adding turbo to the car.
  2. i'm going to get a good dremal tool. i'm not to worried about how much time it will take. i bought a spare plenuim today. the next set is running it through the dishwasher to clean it up a little. it'll be nice and clean and very smooth.
  3. has anyone made there own engold style manifolds. i heard he's not doing them anymore. i was thinking all i would need to do is get another upper plenuim, i know where i can get one. take a cutting wheel on my grinder and remove the top. then use a dremal tool to clean out the insides. i have a friend who has a tig welder (he's a professional welder) who could weld the top back on. and weld some block off plates on the emmisions stuff i removed. the intake upgrade i did yesterday was good. but i really want to fix the next bottle neck. i don't want to do the pathy manifold. i want it took look stock and fit under the hood without cutting the hell out of the underside of the hood. it already flops around enough at highway speeds. has anyone tried this. thanks
  4. i built this because the stock piping is ugly. and has to many curves in it. i drove it after and it seems to have better throttle response. i used silicone intake boots from a dodge turbo cummins diesel. they are 3". i also used an intercooler pipe from an ford powerstroke and then added a little SS (stainless steel) tubing in the middle. the pipe from the powerstroke is SS as well. i welded a few pieces together for my curve and intake fittings. the total cost was $5.00. plus $15 for the ebay air filter. i still have to wire in my electric fan and then remove that stock POS. what do you think? i'm going to polish it up later and then clear coat it with engine enamel.
  5. well i decided i didn't like the 12" subs and 1200 watt amp. i traded my brother them for his 10" pioneer (400watt) in a band pass, with a pioneer 300 watt amp. it sounds much better. that sony stuff just sucks compared to pioneer. anyway, i think i'll be drawing less so i'm going to get the maxima alternator. the only other addition will be my electric fan. i should have the wiring harness finished today. so i can test it out and see if it kills my alternator the rest of the way. i'm holding out until its completely dead.
  6. well i finally had the time to get to the parts store. the quest alternator will not swap in. it has a different bolt pattern and wire connectors. not that has stopped me before. but i think i'd rather put a chevy one wire alternator in.
  7. i think the numbers are more of a WOW factor!!! i usually just turn my pioneer head unit up to 20.
  8. i guess that would be at peak power too. which i would never get to. i'd be deaf. but i do plan to add electic fans so this is a very vital upgrade!
  9. i looked up the quest alternator. its good for 110 amps. that might be what i'm looking for! thanks!
  10. my sterio alone is worth 1500 watts. plus head lights and fog lights. and the stock computer system.
  11. this is on an 84 300zx non turbo so far. okay i have read all about the maxima swap. but i want more then 90 amps. so my question today is the following. has anyone had there stock unit rewound for over 100 amps? i am considering doing that if the price is right. there is a local guy i have used to work on chevy alternators i used in my old toyota truck. he converted them to self excite so all you had to hook up was the battery cable. i am also thinking about going the chevy alternator route as well. i can buy one of those and have 105 amps out of the box for $100. and then another $40 for my alternator guy to rework the regulator. i think i would mount it in the air conditioning bracket. i will have to fabricate a bracket to hook it to the air conditioning bracket but it would be alright. the chevy alternator puts out 70 amps at idle. that is the main reason i want to use it. and the fact it puts out more power. i swapped a supra motor into my toyota truck and have repeatedly reved it over 5500 rpm. the alternator handled it fine and i never had any problems. the factory alternator in my car is having trouble when i have just the lights and rear defroster on. it brings my battery down to about 13 volts. so what are your opinions?

    VQ in a 300z?

does anyone have specs or a web link to that baby. thats pretty sweet!
  13. has anyone intstalled a vh45de in there car. are there any links. i'd really like to see them. thanks and are there any links available to the vg30dett?
  14. the 7mge has head gasket failure issues. only due to toyota not tightening the head down enough. if you torque the head to the specification in toyota service bullitens then it won't be a problem.
  15. yeah toyota v8s suck. the tundra should have way more power. i think toyota really detunes there motors. not to mention how hard it it to get computer modifications. i really like the I6. the reason i like them is because the power curve is pretty flat. you have strong torque through the whole rpm range. thats what i really liked about the supra motor. not to mention how open it is on each side compared to the tight fit of the v6. you really think the V6 will be a better drag racing motor.
  16. alright it may be a little while before i can afford to swap something in my car. i currently have an 84' 300z NA. the motor runs perfect. unfortunalty it leaves me looking for more power. it seems to me that parts are hard to get to make it go faster. i would like to drag race the car. my opinions are for either turboing the vg30e. installing toyota supra 3.0 7mgte or maybe a rb26 turbo. i have swapped and wired motors before. check out my toyota truck i sold to my brother. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/692620. it was a 5mge. it made a hell of a difference and the power was awesome! whats the best for parts suppliers and ability to modify. i'm not sure i want to keep the v6. i really like straight 6 torque and power. it seems they are just built better.
