  1. all i am worried about with the t04b is the spool up time really...what would be the best way to minimize lag with this setup? how do i tell what compressor fins i have already? i think it would be a good upgrade no matter what though....right?:)

  2. well i did a search but cant really find an opinion on the to4b it seems like the t04e is the way to go if you want to spend money but hey if i can put the t04b on and be ahead for pretty much free then i will do that..i went out and took the numbers off of it and its an aireasearch t04b80 serial of iho205 if that helps anyone identify it and on the inside of the inlet it says 11 and on the inside of the outlet it says 5 with .60 under it. there are 7 double compressor fins the inlet is 3in and the outlet is 2in. i guess all i want to know is peoples general opinion on it.

Well i was doing some spring cleaning in my dad shop today and found a t04b80 off of one of our tractors, the exhaust side has a big crack and hole in it but the compressor is in good shape...i have a t3 off an 83 280zx and that i just got a rebuild kit for and have sitting ready to rebuild should i use this t04b to make a t3/t4 hybrid or will it spool too slow..i have a ported n42 head and ported intake and exhaust manifold a big skyline intercooler 60mm tb 3in exhuast so i figure it will flow pretty well..i really dont know a lot about different turbos and trim and wheels and such but would love to learn..where is a good place to find this stuff out?

Hey guys i have everything i need but a downpipe and im not going to pay out the nose for one. so im going to fab one myself but i cant find a flange that bolts up to my turbo outlet. i was thinking i would get one from peter petezracing i think is his name on here but he is going to be gone to the races for few weeks is what he told me and wont be able to get me one i want to finish my car. does anyone know where i could find a flange?

  5. cool thanks..i bought my car back in november and it had bad injectors and a few small things wrong with it and i was just going to get it running and then i started tearing into it and found this site and saw what people were doing and now its april and im just starting to put the car together so i hope in about 2 weeks i should have the ole girl up and running for the first time

  6. i just want to be able to turn the boost up to 15 or so every once in awhile and run like 10 or so the rest of the time, i was hoping since i got a msd fuel pump and im making a bigger rail i could get a rising rate fpr i would be able to have the capacity to do this. could i get a big enough injector pulse with my microtech lt-8 to help out as well

Hey guys i havent heard a lot about guys runing 4 speeds with their turbos and i was wondering if anyone out there knew if they will be able to handle the extra power of a turbo, ported&polished head and intake and exhaust manifolds, msd ignition, microtech ecu, ect ect...i dont really feel like spending money on a 5 speed but if i did what one should i spring for and what rear end is peoples "favorite"

  8. smog isn't an issue in iowa so im not worried about that, but if i went without a pcv and still ran a tube from the crankcase to the mainfold wouldn't i be putting my turbo boost into the crankcase and that is no good, i may be mistaken though. also i dont know if i want to plug it altogether i think it would be better if the crankcase was able to breath. i do like daw's suggestion of venting in the header colletor tube. would you know a way that i could get that to work on my turbodownpipe maybe.

     

    by the way guys if it wasnt for this website i wouldn't know half as much as i do now about Z's. the first month after i bought my car i was going crazy trying to figure out what setup was the best and how i should go about doing certain things and then i found this place and everything is really coming together well.

  9. one thing though is how can i keep from getting oil into my intake...a catch can of some sort? and what is the optimum size for a pcv valve or is there even one?

  10. hey guys ive been working polishing the outside of my intake manifold and shaving all the bungs i dont need flat with the rest of the intake and am going to weld them shut. i was wondering if i need to leave the pcv or not. im not sure if it would overheat my engine or not if i took it out

  11. i just read an awesome post from braap about heads and flow and it got me to thinking about my compression ratios some more..i really havent put a lot of thought into it but what is the "ideal" comp ratio for a turbo l28..i started pulling my head off but and decided to wait till i got my new one cuz i dont have a good clean place to work really and i didnt want it sitting open in my dads dirty machine shed full of tractors. but since i havent pulled it off i havent been able to see if i have dished pistons or not, did 77's have dished pistons. mostly what i want to know is what my comp ratio will be.

  12. yeah thats what i figured, thanks..i have a few more questions for you guys. Is there such a thing as a cheap wideband o2 mixture setup. i would like to go wideband so i can do a better job on tuning but i dont feel like spending more than $150 or so..should i just go with a narrow band o2 setup? how big of valves can you go with in an n42 head before you have to get new valve seats? i want to push my boost to as much as my zxt injectors will take, but i dont really know what they can take. i think i have heard that around 11psi is when you will start to run out of fuel with them. i was wondering what people thought about that. i kinda figured that i could always put a couple of supplemental injectors in my intake pipe after the intercooler later when i want to get more boost.

  13. sorry about my constant posts but i am trying to finish this project up as fast as i can and this seems to be about the best way to find stuff out...i just got a n42 head and a t3 turbo to replace the rayjay one i was going to use cuz the rayjay one isnt really worth the effort for the performance i want. oh yeah the guy had a z31 cas plate he threw in for free so that was cool. so i know have pretty much everything but what i was wanting to know is is an 83 zxt t3 turbo oil or water cooled? does it have a waste gate, if not what should i use for one?...and what exactly is a t3/t4 hybrid

  14. another question for you guys, i have been checking around the machine shops here in iowa and none of them know jack about 280s and havent done any and want to charge me up to 750bucks to get a valve job with larger valves and and have both the intake and exhaust ports ported and polish the exhaust ports, anyways i was wondering if anyone knew any shops that they have had good luck with and is cheaper maybe..i would be willing to ship about anywhere, also im still looking for a z31 300zx crank angle sensor and could use some help in locating one

Well I'm back to work on the z after about a month of letting it sit and all i really need is a z31 300zx pick up wheel for my microtech lt8 ecu and i have a stupid question I wasnt sure if the pick up wheel was what i would call a crank angle sensor or if it was just a part of the crank angle sensor or i am barking up the wrong tree:) if someone could clarify that it would be awesome...also i was wondering what some of you thought i might be running for hp and torque with this setup

  16. well i pulled my head off to take in to get a valve job done and have some porting and polishing done and my cam had a nice layer of rust on the lobes from not being ran in 5 years so i i guess im going to need another cam and was wondering what peoples thoughts on cam setups were

Hey guys I was just wondering what everyone thought about putting a turbo on without putting flat-tops or doing anything to the internals of a great running 77 L28..am i heading for immediate trouble or will i be able to run 4-7lbs of boost without trouble until i can get some time and money to tear the motor down and start fresh..i have the stock n47 head with the steel inserts and i plan on removing those but other than that i have zxt injectors, 60mm tb, rajay turbo setup, 83 zxt dizzy, 300zx dual pick up wheel, microtech lt8 standalone ecu with a msd 6btm ignition controller, i am on the lookout for an intercooler as well and i dont know what im going to run for exhaust yet so if anyone has any ideas on what the best setup would be im open to suggestions.
