  1. Hi Robs240Z, I just read an article about Dave Irwin, owner of a prime 1970 240Z, who says, (Quote): Lately I started doing LED light conversions on 240Z tail light assemblies. I have LED tail lights and side marker on my 240Z and you can definitely see me coming and going. My main goal is to help other 240Z owners bring there car into the 21st Century by improving their electrical and lighting systems, and their nighttime visibility by other drivers. I now design and manufacture Headlight Relay Upgrade Harness’s and Parking light upgrade harness’s for the whole 240Z community. I sell them World-Wide and make a decent living doing it. I also make 280ZX alternator adapter plugs for the 240Zs. It allows Z owners to install a higher amperage, internally regulated 280ZX alternator into their 240Z without the ugly rewire normally involved in the swap. http://forzamotorsport.net/news/carculture/dyno06-1.htm Here's his My Space page: http://www.myspace.com/thatdatsunguy You can send him a message by going to http://www.classiczcars.com/ His user name is " zs-ondabrain ". You can find him in the Members List. James
  2. I've seen Autometer guages mouted in a 240-Z dash. I see Speedhut is also making some really nice gauges. What size gauges should I get to fit the dash openings of my 1973 240-Z: 1- Tach/Speedo? 2- The 3 smaller gauges? My beautiful Z is in storage out of state, so I can't very easily go measure the size of the openings or the size of the stock gauges myself. Thank you if you've got the answers I need. You can reply directly, I'm at mcmahon@hmss.com THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE SUPPORT I GET AT HYBRID-Z. James
  3. Thanks for the info and the link. Much appreciated. I'd done a Google search and looked on ebay. I don't know how I missed it. But I thank you for pointing it out to me. Jake

  5. Kidding? No, naviathan, I'm QUOTING. Dennis Diehl, a tech rep for PAINLESS said, "unfortunately we do not build any foreign car harnesses" Which is precisely what I said. I'm hoping to find a dedicated, newly fabricated, modern harness for the 240-Z. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that. "Plug-n-Play" is what I'm hoping to find, not a "universal," One-Size-Fits-None harness. Looks like zcarnut is steering me in the right direction for something like waht I'm looking for. Thanks! Jim
  6. Painless doesn't make wiring harnesses for foreign cars. Does anyone sell brand newly made wiring harnesses for the S30 240-Z ? I'd really prefer to NOT reuse my 35 year old wires if I can replace them with a newly made set. Please let me know at: mcmahon@hmss.com Thanks everyone! Jake
  7. I have a question, please. What do "1j" "1jz" and "2j" "2jz" mean? I'm hoping to buy a new wiring harness for my 1973 240-Z rebuild, and wonder if those terms refer to something I should know about. Thanks! James

    Headlight

WHOA . . . what the ???? What kind of headlight is that? Where can I get them? Is that orange section a turn signal or parking light? Both? Neither? What? Thanks. James. mcmahon@hmss.com
  9. Can the center faceplate on a 1973 240-Z fit a modern "Full-DIN" size stereo? If not, can it be cut bigger so one will fit? Can anyone confirm that the depth of the slot of the stereo on an S30 Z car is 7 inches? It sure would help to know the maximum dimensions I've got available to work with when trying to find a stereo to fit my Z. Thanks! Jake
  10. Howdy all. I'm surprised I haven't been able to find the maximum dimensions for seats to fit in a classic S30 Z-car. So I'm asking here if anyone knows if these specific seats I plan to buy are going to fit. My main concern is the "wings" up by the shoulders of the seats. Will they stick out too far, and bang against the doors, and stop them from closing!? You can see the seat here: http://static.summitracing.com/global/images/prod/large/grm-15-603_w.jpg And a good photo here, showing a pair of seats installed in some car (but not an S30 Z): http://www.shophyperformance.com/cart/images/items/harnessesbig.jpg I've read elsewhere on these forums that a Corbeau A4 seats will fit, and that seat's pretty broad in the shoulders, too. Anyone know the answer? Thanks! James mcmahon@hmss.com
  11. Thanks for the help, guys. I guess as long as there's no other source for them other than MSA, quality is a bit of a moot point. Good, bad or otherwise, what'cha gonna do? But I'm glad to hear the reviews seem to range from, "Very Good", to "Minor problems" at worst. That's still pretty darned good! I'm calling them today and putting in my order. I hope they've got stock. James
  12. Howdy Gents and Ladies, I'm hoping there are some ladies here, too. Can those of you with experience with the MSA fiberglass front bumper please tell me ahead of time what the quality of it is like? I'll be fitting it to a 1973 240-Z, which the MSA site says will take some adapting. Is MSA the only show in town when it comes to a fiberglass front bumper? Is there anyone offering a better one? I've got a 1973 240-Z in gorgeous shape and I found a body/paint guy who, thank god, is a stickler for quality. So I'm confident of a good result, but I want to start with the best pieces I can to help that happen. I'm going without a rear bumper, and want to balance the look with a close-fit fiberglass frontbumper. The photos at the MSA web site and in their catalog for their products often aren't very clear, but I've seen plenty of great looking fiberglass front bumpers on Z cars, and presume they come from MSA. I did a search for this topic before posting, and read what I could find, so I hope I'm not repeating too closely anything that's been covered already. Help is much appreciated. James
  13. I'm coming up on a hard deadline to choose new wheels and tires for my 1973 240Z. The car has had a coil-over conversion done at all four corners, and is now lower by about 1"-1.5". I'm replacing the stock 14" wheels, but don't know what size tires I can fit into the wheel wells without rubbing/bumping. I'm considering both 16" and 17" wheels. I believe the upper width limit I can mount on a 16"x7" wheel is 225mm (in a pinch, maybe 235). On a 17"x8" wheel I should be able to mount a 265mm. But just because I can mount it doesn't mean it will fit and work in the 240Z wheel wells. So can anyone please tell me the widest tires I can mount in the front wheel wells, and the largest I can mount in the rear (I may go wider in the rear if possible). If this information is already available somewhere for the 240Z can someone just direct me to it? I didn't think it would be hard to find, since so many 240/60/80-Z owners have already dealt with this issue. Thanks very much for any and all help. I NEED IT. You can post to this thread, and/or reply directly to me at: mcmahon@hmss.com Thanks a lot, guys! Jim
