  1. Just drove my ZX back from the muffler shop last night, I can now "hear" what the car is doing. Car runs great, with just half throttle it churps the tires with each shift of the 700r4, no drive line noise. With some back pressure the motor idles better and has a bit more low end thottle response. I had a mandrel bent 2 1/2 single Flowmaster muffler system installed, wanted it simple and light, this is a Sunday driver for me. Funny how money can "talk", spoke with the shop owner Monday morning and told him I would pay cash and didn't need a bill, he called me at 3 pm and the car was ready, same day service. Now all I have to do is figure a way to quiet down that Holley Blue pump.

  2. Thanks Cozy Z, I too did not want to take up space on this site, I'am already a donating member, been so since I first found this great site. If I can pull my self away from working on the Z car I'll start my own gallery. Thanks for your response.

  3. Twoeightythreez, Would like to hook up when your back home, I too grew up in Bethlehem but alot longer time ago than you. I would like to thank you for your service to this country during these screwed up times. I am ex Army, Airborne Infintry, Vietnam Vet, so I can appricate what you are doing for us. Get home safely.

  4. PETEW, I live right on the other side of the Blue Mountain from you, off of route 100, was up your way on Thursday to that EZ pull junk yard, what a zoo that place is. Found one 280ZX and four 300ZX's one is a turbo, going to get the rear and half shafts off the turbo for spare parts.

E-mail me and I'll call you, we are about 15 miles apart.

  5. Got my driveshaft back and shortened, using the JTR rear flange, everything looks good. I couldn't wait to try the car out for the first time under power. I put a line lock in the car when I did the other converson mods. Car has no exhaust installed just headers now. So I jump on the brakes and hit the line locker and nail the throttle, the cars back end slides left with the tires spinning and I let go of the line lock, the Z launched like a rocket, burned rubber until i had to let off (driveway is 90 feet long) All I can say is f**kin WOW, even with the tires smoken this thing was pulling hard. Can't wait to get it on some open highway and blow it out a little. My son is comming over with a video camera and I will posts some video then.

  6. Battery has both top and side posts, I think i got a deal at the factory, don't know what the retail price would be? alot of battery info at their web site

    eastpenn-deka.com

. Absored Glass Mat AGM batteries have all the advantages of spill proof, no maintenance, mount in any position, plus high crank amps for our high compression engines. Non acid battery (optima) do have some draw backs, but I don't want to start a pissing contest on this topic.

  7. I just rear mounted a AGM battery in my ZX, AGM is a glass mat battery with lead plates, spill proof can be mounted in any position. The glass mat between the lead plates holds the acid no liquid slossing around. They claim it will go a year without use and still crank a car. The one I have is a group 24 battery (common auto size) and puts out 870 crank amps. Only draw back is that battery weighs 40 pounds, but mounted over the left rear wheel so what.

This battery is made by Deka, they build them about 20 miles from my house, paid $67 at the factory store.

I use maintenance free batteries in all my Harleys and never charge them, bikes sit in an unheated garage in the winter, I start them once a month during the cold weather and never have a problem.

  8. Get the JTR engine and trans mounts for the ZX, Very nice pieces, allow you to adjust the engine position left to right and front to back with motor and trans in the car. I think the 79' ZX had a steering box which causes some problems with exhaust header fit on the drivers side. My 83 has a power rack steering, you may want to consider finding a JY ZX to get all the rack and pinion parts out of to swap into yours. JTR has Sanderson headers to fit the ZX with rack steering only, they fit perfect. Just a few suggestions for you to think about.

  9. Years ago I seen a guy that made a car hauler out of a school bus. He kept the cab section and cut the back end off and mated it to the cab, had a four seater bus and a place to haul the drag car, was actually nice looking. Leave it to a gearhead to think that one up. LOL

  10. Buddy of mine bought a used bus to haul around show dogs, not a full sized school bus but alittle smaller, on a Ford chassis with a power stroke v8 deisel. He primed the whole thing with rattle cans. Yesterday I painted the beast in his driveway with cheap enamel paint and gloss hardener and after four hours (man my arms were tired) we were finished. Gotta say for a red neck paint job sure looks good. P.S. thats the last bus I'll ever offer to paint, way too much work for me.

  11. Feels good, not that just the motor runs but everything else I did works, all the wiring mods, rear mounted AGM battery, 3/8 tube fuel lines from the tank to engine, holley electric pump and regulator and all the stock ZX gauges work. I'll list all the other work to the car after my first drive. Rock on!!

  12. Fired up the SBC 350 in my ZX for the first time yesterday, sounds pretty good. Cranked the motor twice for about five seconds with the ign wire off the distribitor, reconnected wire and engine fired up with no trouble. Set timming at 8 deg. and set idle speed, vac at 16-17 in.at idle. Good oil pressure, and water temps.

Engine is an "old school" small block build, 73' corvette block serial # ending in CLA, heads are double hump 67' casting # 3917291, Crane cam, Edelbrock performer intake, Holley 750 with vac sec., Sanderson headers from JTR.

Car is still up on jack stands, need to have a drive shaft made and an exhaust system, hope to be doing burn outs in the driveway soon.

Motor sounds really strong, going to the junk yard today to p/u a drive shaft, life is good.
