  1. I honestly like tying new stuff. I probably could not afford an LS1 now but I did consider it before I did the LT1 swap. There's a guy here in Jax that's done the LS1 swap in his Z so I know it is doable. I think had had to modify the oil pan and the oil pickup but thats not unusual. I have not seen it run but I heard it was pretty damn quick.

I am personally a fan of the guy from sweden, i think it was, that put the LS1 in. He did a great job on modding the firewall and the tranny tunnel to get the LS1 so much further back. Sure its really not going to make the stock dash and interior possible but its great for racing im sure.

Heres a link to a vid of him trying it out in a parking lot:http://videos.streetfire.net/video/7728a0ac-2eda-4d75-99f0-984500d72d66.htm

  2.

And you jumped from 2700 to 3200... the VG is NOT 500 pounds heavier than the SR. IF a VG30DET puts a Z32 at 3200 then a SR swap shouldn't even put you down to 3k. And to put the record straight the Z32 2 door hard top was spec'ed at 3299.

I agree that only an engine swap will get him down there but its possible. I dont know how serious this guy is but Uncle Joe got his racing 300zx down to 2750 lbs with the a hard top and a VG30de.....So its very possible if this guy went all out on weight savings then he could get lower. I know Mike Kojima is making a time attack 300zx right now and he is going through a lot of trouble getting the weight down, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up(he is keeping the TT engine). Of course he has a massive cage in his car so the weight reduction will probably be offset by that.

  3. Ill have to agree with the LS1 swap, but i know a lot of people are hard core purists....which i cant say i understand. If there is a swapped engine in there it doesnt matter who made it, its still a swapped engine car. I have thought about the SR20 myself, but ive always just been more of that NA engine feeling.

  4. The car really would need some kind of means of tuning(i.e. Zemulator), dont just throw in a TT ECU because the engines are different therefore need different tunes. Like said above, if you are going single turbo then you have to combine the manifolds into one which means custom manifolds...Unless you choose to run a STS style turbo system with the turbo in the back by the muffler. If thats the case then you need to have lots of piping custom made for your exhaust making it a single and also the charge piping going back up to the front woulf have to be fabbed too. If you search on twinturbo.net you ill find a guy that did put the stock turbo equiptment on the NA engine. It made decent numbers and had a very broad powerband compared to the low compression turbo engine. Still if you really want a turbo I think your best option would be to sell the car you have and buy a turbo(unless you really want a 2+2. And if thats the case then its time to buy a TT front clip and do a full swap.

Are you a Nissan purist? What is your goal for this car? Are you just looking for raw straight line power? If so a SBC swap may be a good choice. If you are looking to still have some balance in the car then an LSx is a great choice because it actually weighs less than the VG30de. One other, probably more expensive, option would be a VH45 swap(Q45 V8). This is great if you are looking to stay in the Nissan family, but the aftermarket for it is not very large.

  5. I guess you guys have never seen Pinks before?? If they tell you to show up with a 12 second car you damn well better be running 9s. It was your guys own fault playing by the rules.

No matter what you say about the other team, they acted in the same way that every team does on there every episode. Its all about how well you can sandbag the car and how well you can act.

  6. Nicely played. For some time I had entertained the idea of putting a VH45 in my Z32 as well....unfortunately there is almost no aftermarket for that engine here and what there is extremely expensive when compared to the SBC.

  7. The VG30de isnt the most powerful engine around and its heavy as hell. I could maybe see the gas mileage but if you are looking to beat the fastest truck in your town you are most likely going to need more than that. I would honestly go with a small block chevy. If built mild enough the gas mileage is on par with the VG30de and you could build it to run off low octane gas, where the VG30de requires premium. So my answer, very mild built small block or get your engine running and strap some giggle gas on it.

  8. Good Luck. Not sure how the z diff is going to handle that torque but in the Hybrid spirit" Lets Find Out!"

Any idea if a 10.25:1 can be boosted safely and to what level? 5lbs 8 lbs?

Its not the diff. so much, more like the half shafts. The NA ones can snap very easy. I have heard of TT shafts breaking too, but that seems to be rare. I think with that beast you will be breaking either one when you put on the slicks.

  9. Very cool swap man. I drive a Z32 NA myself that is getting way up there in the milage department so I have given quite a bit of thought of a SBC swap. I was looking at the LSx series because of the light weight block but Im still up in the air on that. What all did you have to do custom to fit it in there? Cut up the firewall? Custom lower cross member?? After the SBC treatment it will more than likely be reserved for track duties, so the easier to setup carb'd car may be the way to go.
