  1. I have the MSD pump istalled on my 81 (N2O)n-turbo and it is working great. With my ZEX kit it up's the fuel pressure to 90 psi when on the nitrous. With other pumps I could not get that psi or they would not flow enough at that psi. So I think you idea is a good one! Jason
  2. What amount of timing increase does a 81 NA distributor have? What I mean is if I set my initial timing to 20* what will it advance to? Thanks Jason
  3. My L28 motor is getting very tired it has made over 125 1/4 mile passes. It is getting a rod tap upon start up. At first it was only with cold start-up's and now it even with warm start-up's. My question is... before it gets any worse, would it be a good idea to replace all of the rod bearings, or just plain on getting a "new" junkyard motor? By replacing the rod bearings I mean, droping the oil pan and sliping the new bearings in the motor without doing any machine work. Thanks Jason
  4. I know that this forum is not for Maxima's, but I respect your opinions very much. Here is the project. I have a 92 SE Maxima, it has the VE30DE motor in it. From what I understand this motor is somewhat releated to the VG30E(T) motor of the 300zx.I had give to me a set of Z31 manifolds and T3 turbo. I know the turbo is good for up to 240-260hp(14psi),Right? The VE30DE already has 190hp and a 10:1 comp ratio. Here the catch. I can't get thicker headgaskets,Boost sensing ignitions(distributorless),or hybrid turbos. So with a decient intercooler what do you guys think will be the max boost this motor will take before detonation? And what hp might I exect from that psi? I know that a lot of other things dictate when detonation accures, but is there a general rule. With those figures would this turbo at ___psi equal a big exhaust restriction. The main thing is it worth the trouble???
  5. I hate FELPRO gaskets. And they claim to be the "offical gasket company of NASCAR".If they use there line of store bought gaskets in those car's NO ONE WOULD EVEN FINISH !!!Even there seals suck compared to Nissan's. Good Luck Jason PS Are you NOT supose to use race gas and a O2 sensor? And WHY??
  6. Went to the local junkyard and found a pretty complete 84 300zx NA, and grabed the ECU and all of FI wiring.I also grabed every that that went to the FI wiring (distubitor,AFM,Fuel temp, etc)All of this stuff ran me $50.00. Then find a 280zxT and get the distubitor and the shaft that drives distubitor. After that all that is left the a little wiring, about as much as when people install a L28T into a 240,260,280z.If anyone is interested in the wiring I would be glad to E-mail them with it. Good luck Jason PS could I get the car to richen up if I installed a resistior inline with the CHTS.
  7. I have just installed a 84 300zx wiring harness and ECU on my 81 280zx na. The problem is that is has a very lean idle. After 3500 rpm it runs very very strong. I have removed the little plug and adjusted the MAS and that helped a little.I have also ask the guys at Z31.com and zcar.com 84-89 forums, and gotten no help.If any of you guys have any ideas I would be glad to try them, other that getting the ECU reprogrammed, I would get a SDS before I did that. Thanks Jason
  8. Can my Crane HI-6S and my SDS EM3D share the same MAP sensor? Or will that cause some kind of conflict? Thanks Jason
  9. Can my Crane HI-6S and my SDS EM3D share the same MAP sensor? Or will that cause some kind of conflict? Thanks Jason
  10. My friend is has decided to change over to a SDS ECU. Those of you that have the system, what type of sensors does he need? Also what extra parts(sensors)will he need because of it being turbo. Also will the basic setup work for a turbo car, the one without ignition controls work? Will he have to convert over to a NA type distributor.
  11. I have a 81zx NA that has a ZEX nitrous kit installed. I have a Bosch fuel pump from a 88 F-150 on my car.The ZEX kit made to increase the fuel pressure. Well as soon as I hit the nitrous the fuel pressure jumps up to 80psi, the car is just roasting the rear tires, then the fuel pressure starts to drop and the tires hook up the fuel pressure keeps droping down to about 60psi and the car srats to run very shitty.Does it sound like I need a larger fuel pump? And doen't 80psi sound like a awful lot of fuel just for a 55hp shot . Thanks Jason
  12. Hello every one, I have finally got the car running very good. It will smoke my 79zx . I have two NA's (79,81) and one Turbo(82). The car that was having the problems was my friend Patrick's, it is a "NA to Turbo" swap, he also has a 78z. My other friend James has a 260z and three 300zxT's.James' brother has a 80zx. It turned out the problem was the AFM and a few bad grounds, the main bad ground was the one inside, near the ECU that one seems to be the ground for the TPS.Because if those wires aren't hooked up you can't get the TPS to light a testlight.
  13. Right Now I using a F150 4.9L rail mount BOSCH fuel pump. Using my adjustable FPR I have had it to as high as 80psi. I wanted to make sure that it produced enough psi for my car on N2O. It is a good, quite pump.A friend gave it to me after he installed a 289 with a carb, and did not need it anymore. I would say that these pumps where plentful at parts yards. Good luck Jason
  14. I tested the ECU on my stock car and it ran even bettter than with "it's" stock ECU So that leaves only one thing "false air". It think that the EGR valve is stucking open a little or broken some how. Thanks for offering my money back, though.
  15. My friend and I have been tring to get his turbo car to start running better, It has been running very very rich. There are only two things that seem to be left and they are... the ECU is bad or I'm getting false air from some where, and at this rate it must a lot. I'm pretty sure that SleeperZ would not sell a known bad ECU so I leaning toward the false air idea.So I was thinking it would be a lot easier and cleaner(looking) to just remove most of the emissions crap off the intake. So what can be removed without any major side effects. Thanks Jason PS. I will try the ECU on "my" good running stock 82ZXT.
  16. It turns out I the "start signal" hooked up right in the first place. The car is not going into a closed loop mode. What are the other reasons for the ECU to go into closed loop mode. Thanks Jason
  17. Never mind I think I have figured it out by doing a search on zcar.com. It turns out that I have the "start signal wire" hooked up wrong. I have it hook up like a ACC wire going to a aftermarket radio. Not where it only has power when the starter is engaged.
  18. My friend and I have just finished installing and wiring up a turbo motor in a 81na car. We had to replace the injectors, I had some good injectors from a 300zxT and we installed them. Now the car runs very very rich(never really ran before). To the point of fouling a set of plugs in about five minutes. I have tested and checked the fuel pressure, adjusted the TPS, and much more stuff tring the get the car to run better.I now have the AFM set a fullround tighter than stock, and the car will aleast stay running SOME. Oh by the way to get the car to start you have to unplugg the fuel pump, then while tring to keep the car running, plug it up so that the car will stay running. Thanks for any help Jason
  19. I'm seriously plaining on putting in a RB2?det? into my 280zx. I going to be getting a settlement pretty soon and will have enough money for the swap. But first.. 1. Who can I get RB's from at good prices? 2. Will I also need the mounts from 200zr? 3. What model trans do I need? 4. Will the twin turbo motor fit a ZX? 5. What intake do I need? 6. What oil pan? 7. Tell me anything else that you think I might need. Thanks Jason
  20. Think I'm going to pass on getting that much done to the head. I'm going to stop by there shop and talk to them and see what they say would be a good idea to have done to the head. I feel that if I spent that much on head work, a piston would come loose and smack the head a few time (just my luck). I have a turbo car waiting to get the motor rebuilt after I finish the major work with this car. Thanks for the helpful replies Jason
  21. Is this a fair price for getting a head ported, for my 81 NA.I wondering if it is really worth it? This would be a N47 head on a very stock F54 block with the stock ECU. Thanks Jason
  22. I had a good Bosch fuel pump give to me for my 81zx NA. It is from a 88 F150 with a 300ci 6cyl. What was wondering is will it flow enough for my car on a 75hp shot of nitrous. I think that it would because it was for a engine that is 4.9L instead of 2.8L. BUT the inlet is smaller than the one on a 280zx. The fuel pumps inlet and oulet will fit good into a 280zx fuel hose up near the filter. So what do you guys think?? Thanks Jason Is it a good idea to mount this pump near the fuel filter? And can I use both at the same time?
  23. What is need to install a 4.38 R180 for a 4x4 truck into a 81 280zx that has a 3.9 R200.And "Really" how much weaker is the R180 vs.R200? This car is a auto, so it does not slam gears like a stick does. So I think it would hold up alright. Thanks Jason
  24. I have removed all of the old paint and added bondo where needed. Then I applied some cheap light gray spray paint primer to prevent rust. Before I take this car to get sprayed what steps should I take to make sure the paint bonds good and is smooth? And should I have the spray paint primer removed and a good coat of primer added? Thanks Jason
  25. Have you ever noticed how much a 3000gt's windshield looks like one of a Ferrari 355. That me to thinking that if someone made a 355 body kit a 3000gt, much like the Ferrari GTO kit for Z, that it would look pretty cool. Plus the older ones of these cars are getting pretty cheap. If someone was stupid enough to put this kit on a VR4, your car would look and be as fast as a 355(with upgrades). Let me know what you think. Jason
