  1. OK, I could not find any vacuum leaks and the fuel coming from my line is crystal clear, no particles at all. I am ordering a fuel pressure gauge and just to be safe, I am replacing all my vacuum lines. I forgot to mention that I had a friend hook up his meter that measures air fuel ratio. When it is first started it is around 11.8 -12.0 but after a minute or so it jumps to 32.0or higher. Anyone else have any suggestions????
  2. Thanks for the info, I'll order the gauge Monday. I already cleaned ANY connections I could find with contact cleaner. There are several things that do not work so I thought I'd clean everything. I figured grounding because of the time it had sat. I am going to check again for air leaks & blowing out my line today.
  3. My injectors look okay, not gummed up or anything. I have no way to check the fuel pressure though. I changed the fuel filter and it ran okay for a few minutes then started acting like it was starving again. I'm starting to think that my nain fuel line is the culprit. It will rev ONCE then it is hard to keep running, like it uses all the available fuel to rev and then runs out. If it dies then I restart it, it does the same thing. I thought about disconnecting the line at my pump and at the filter and blowing it out with air???
  4. It will run for as long as 30 seconds sometimes. I think you may be talking about the fuel pump relays. Mine are okay as near as I can tell.
  5. have a problem, my 76 280Z will not keep running. It will rev good when it is first started but then bogs down when you give it gas. It had sat for years before this but I have taken off & cleaned the fuel tank, new Walbro fuel pump, new fuel filter, replaced the AFM, the fuel pressure regulator and Seafoamed it. I know the water temp sensor needs to be replaced but I don't think it would cause this??? If you rev it at idle once it is fine but then it will barely keep running. Doesn't idle long either. I have downloaded the FI Bible and read it but I'm ready to pull my hair out. Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks
  6. Would an AFM from a '78 work on my car or do I need one from a '76??? I founda nice one I may be able to get but it is from a '78.
  7. I actually tried moving the grid but it didn't help. I'll try the alcohol and see if that works. I may have to wait until Monday, we have 99% at work. Thanks for the tip.
  8. My '76 280 sat for years and not too long ago I got it running. It idles OK but when you give it gas it backfires through the manifold and leans out. The a/f ratio shoots up to 45 and it bogs down. I downloaded the FI bible from a link I found on here and ran all the tests, it failed 2, both having to do with the AFM. I have way too much resistance on my readings. I took off the AFM and opened it up, when testing the resistor or wiper or whatever you call it, it starts building ohms smoothly but then shoots from around 74 to 290. I can see wear marks that almost look like cuts on the wiper it runs against. I guess my question is can this be repaired? Or am I looking at having to buy another AFM. Any ideas would be appreciated.
  9. Thanks. PM me and we'll do a deal. I would rather go used for now. I will be doing the tune this weekend. I bought some Seafoam to use before the oil change. I have another set of Champions I found that I'll use for now. Once it is running good I'm on to the brakes and suspension.
  10. Ok, I got the FI bible and read it. Turned out is was my fuel pressure regulator. My question is now where can I find an adjustable type at a good price? Also, all of the local auto parts store only carry Autolite and Champion plugs for my Z. I would like some NGKs. Got any suggestions? What do you guys use?
  11. I have a problem. I finally got my Z running after a tank, line cleaning and a new Walbro pump. This thing has been setting for years and i was surprised at how easy it started. But it does not rev past 2K unless I get it up to 1500, back off, rev it to 2000, back off, you get the idea. It smells rich. It backfires through the mass airflow and pops. If I floor it the engine just bogs like the switch is cut off. I know a tune is needed but I wondered if anyone else has had the same or similar problem. I did a few searches but didn't find anything with answers. maybe I searched wrong. I'm going to keep searching. Should I do a tune up first or does this sound like another problem? Possible MAF sensor failure? I'm trying to be as accurate as I can but am I jumping the gun? Thanks for your help
  12. Dropping it is now too bad. Draining your gas out will make it easy to do by yourself. The hard part for me was getting the filler hose off and put back on, other than that it was fairly easy. I had the car on jack stands and used a jack to hold the tank. Should be a few hours to fix it.
  13. Hey guys, thanks again for the help. I got the motor/tranny for $100. Seemed like a good deal. Not sure of the year but I can track that down by the serial number.
  14. He does not have anything to fit that he can check the gears. Ya'll have been a big help, I printed out the pics and will take them with me when I get to meet up with him. Thanks guys.
