That is some insane fab skils for sure. Its gonna be a pain in the rear to find glass, headlights and taillights though. They dont look like they are the same dimension as the real ones. Even if they were how much does a mircialago sp? headlight/taillight cost...5k-10k?

Soda is about the worst media you could use on undercoating. I would use a very fine coal slag (black beauty). It will cut through the undercoating very fast and leave a nice profile for another undercoating to be applied. Also with the soda you will have to neutralize it prior to coating. Start at about 60psi and approx 16 inches away. Don't leave the nozzle over any one place to long. Remove in layers need be. Its not hard. Btw I have a 8k soda blasting machine...lol

I didn't realize that Jeeps would launch into the air when a pipe punctures the radiator. Kinda scary and you would think Jeep would do something about that problem.
Obviously the pipe struck the radiator then the ground and catapulted the jeep in the air...DUH... lol

Your in CA? Why would you even consider a car in that condition when there are alot of Z's in great condition for sale? I got my Rust free Z for $800...
-
Well the Z is on the rotisserie and the plan for the next two weekend is...
Bad Dog Frame Rails w/ rear extensions
Front and Rear Reinforced Jack Points
Seam Sealer

Thanks for the info. They're close by too.
I have a pair of hood hinges I want done. Do you know if they do small stuff too?
Im pretty sure they will do them. Give them a call.

With the extensiveness of builds growing and growing, the use of media blasters seems to be expanding as well. I chose to use a media blaster to give my project a great starting point as well.
I went with
Precision Stripping & Coating

(209) 333-1212
and they did a great job. Pictures can be seen in my build thread here:

I paid $600 for the blasting and $500 for the bake on primer. (Your price may vary!!)
I dont have ANY connection to the business I just wanted to share my experience with a business.

So my Z has been media blasted and primered and is going on the rotisserie tomorrow. There is NO RUST TO BE REPAIRED. If you had it to do all over again and your Z was at this point what would you do? I have searched and read for hours. The following list is my plan. I would appreciate any tips or time savers anyone could pass on.
FYI Im doing a 2JZ with a single turbo, R154, Q45 rear end and fuel cell. The car will be used as a weekend car and some autox's.
Bad Dog Frame Rails
Weld In 4 Point Roll Bar
Weld In Rear Strut Brace
Weld in tube between Firewall and Front Strut Towers
Weld in tube between Front Strut Towers and frame.
Camber Plates

Well this thread is just going to document my little project. The plan is for a single turbo 2JZ with a R154 5 Speed blah blah blah. I bought the CA rust free 240z for $800 and have stripped it bare. The chassis is now media blasted and primered. Here some pics so far...
Pics of the blasting will be up soon. Up next is getting it on the rotisserie, bad dog frame rails, and some body work....
Here is the Z back from the media blasters with a bake on primer. It was awesome to get it back with no rust to be repaired. They did a great job and I will be ending them more business for sure. the last picture is it sitting on some 19's that belong to my Audi S4. Next is the Z getting on the rotisserie to begin the welding...
Here is the Z on the rotisserie. There was ALOT of media trapped in the body of the Z, but the rotisserie helped tremendously in getting it all out. Spinning it around a couple times got the majority out and the rest was sucked out with a shop vac. Next is welding in the sub frame connectors....

I stripped the vehicle to the bare chasis. Nothing was left. It was $600 for the blasting and $400 for a "baked On" primer. This did not include any fenders, hood etc etc. Just the bare chasis. I ordered a soda/sand blasting setup so I will be blasting the fenders, hood, suspension etc. myself.

I'm picking up the car from the media blaster Monday. The blaster called me Monday to tell me it was the cleanest z he had ever seen. No rust or cancer 100% solid! So the frame rails should be good to go for the bd frame rails. Thanks
-
Thank you, thats what Ill do.

First and foremost I have searched! Are the Bad Dog Frame Rails for a 240z supposed to be welded OVER the old frame rails? I have seen people remove the old ones and weld over the old ones. Their webiste does not specify for the 240z, but does for the 280z. THANKS ALOT!!

You might want to look more into soda blasting. When something is soda blasted it is left with a coating that many times cannot be primered or painted over. Whatever is soda blasted has to have a neutralizer wash prior to applying coatings.
As far as $250 for media blasting, that is SUPER CHEAP. Make sure they are using a media that will not damage/warp your panels. Also make sure the technician doing the work is skilled.
