  1. I ran into this beauty of a thread doing a google search for sbc's running e85. I'm in the planning stages of a 350 into 280ZX swap. Little did I expect to find a member right here, and even "just down the road" who had the same idea What special considerations did you make for the e85? Surely not just carb jetting and spark gap? Whats the deal with the spark gap, I've never heard of that being adjusted for e85. Are you using the stock 280ZX fuel tank? Its my understanding that these old style iron are particularly succeptible to corrosion caused by oxidation or water buildup or something in the e85. 280ZX succeptible to corrosion?! Ha! who would have ever guessed... (Goes out and kicks a hole through his rusty floorboards.) How much more boost are you able to run with the E85? I'd thinkit should really cool down your air charge.
  2. A Texas wide meet? Now that is just silly talk. This place is too big for a state wide meet. Thats like the French proposing a national meet or something
  3. Searching around a little more on Google last night I was able to find a site that appeared to have mirrored some older information from the jtr site. From this information I was able to gather that the tranny xmember included in the kit by "default" is only good with some automatic and the t5. BUT! There is a t56 crossmember available according to the text. Has anyone ordered the jtr kit and substituted the t56 crossmember for the one included by default? Any extra cost involved?
  4. I'm looking at doing an sbc conversion, and kind of like the looks of teh JTR kit. I couldn't tell which transmissions were avail for it though. Their site just seemed to say "tranny crossmember" without saying which worked on it. I'd really like a T56. I've seen lots of pre-280ZX Z owners with the T56, but not very many 280ZX owners. Just not as popular with this crowd, or is the tranny tunnel of limiting geometry? Thanks guys! rx
  5. Are all the sbc blocks with roller cams belonging to Vortec heads? IE. all of the 90-95 pn# ch350r2 at this local rebuilder's page http://www.ledfordperformance.org/rebuilt_chevy_engines.html I know the trucks didn't get Vortec heads until 96, but maybe these corvettes and such between 90 and 95 did? Or am I misunderastanding the meaning of the "1PC-SL-RLR-2 BOLT"? It should be 1 piece rear seal, roller cams, 2 bolt mains I believe.
  6. I used to have a picture of a 280ZX that had "lake pipes" running from behidn the front wheel to just before the rear one. I can't find it anymore. 2 Days ago though I made a mockup image on some Z pic I found, of the exhaust style that I would "like" to have after I get a v8 in my car. I cleared my browser history and forgot where I uploaded them. My bro is going to try to pullup the url from his history tonight though and I'll post it up... My "photoshopping" skills really suck though haha. rx
  7. You can get alot of the advantage of an LT1 in your earlygen sbc by using the 5.7L vortec heads. These were placed on trucks that used the 350 `96+. You'll need vortec style intake with it though, your old manifold won't mate up. These heads have the swirel inducing combustion chamber and the re-positioned sparkplug like the LT1 heads. They don't however allow for that nifty reverse coolant . As far as roller cams, the sbc 350 had those as well in 87+ blocks(atleast the non-truck ones, I'm not sure about truck blocks). Anyone know if any sbc heads came with roller rockers? Or are these strictly aftermarket?(hope I didn't just jack the thread here). I'm sure you guessed, I'm not a chevy engine expert Just some silly Z owner thats been trying to pick an expensive engine combination. So don't buy on my words, back it with your own research before droping any major $$'s rx
  8. I believe the lower HP rating is due to the SOHC head design. If you're planing on using a vg33e and getting headwork done... I'd consider modifying a vg30de's heads to go on the block. You'll need to re-shape a water passage or two to get things to line up right. The main difference in the 33 and 30 is that the bore is increased. It uses the same crank, with a different snout.
  9. Does anyone have a picture of a VG30DE or DETT in a s130's engine bay??
