  1. Well it's deleted now... again. I wonder what the big deal is with this topic, the MSEFI people seem to not really like it too much.
  2. This is strange. Here's the link to my thread that presumably started this whole thing in MSEFI: http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=22994 I am accessing the site from a remote location, which hasn't been banned, obviously. It now appears that "eliot mansfield" started the topic, and that it was started today, but I originally started it under my user name "hoohaa" three days ago. I am not sure I understand what is going on.
  3. Well I just tried to access the site at work, and it appears that even my work IP has been banned. I must have accessed MSEFI from work before. This sucks. I will check out that yahoo group.
  4. I agree that it wouldn't be entirely surprising for such a topic to be deleted like that, but I got my IP banned. I still haven't received a reply email from anyone at MSEFI. That's the part that seems really strange to me. I have cable internet in a relatively out-of-the-way neighborhood, so it would really surprise me if someone else had caused problems at MSEFI on this IP, but I can't come up with a better explanation. I do hope someone at least answers my email. If they tell me I am banned for using the term "EMP" at least I can read and search the forum when I'm at work. At this point I just want to know what happened.
  5. None of this was ever discussed on MSEFI. I simply brought up EMP protection with no mention of the cause. EMP can be caused by a number of different devices: some weapons, some not. I seriously doubt that I would be IP banned from the forums for simply mentioning EMP. I am pretty sure there is something else going on; what that is, I am still trying to figure out. This topic is about me being IP banned from the MSEFI forums. It is not even about EMP. I have received a number of very helpful pieces of advice from a few members, some in this post and some via pm, so I am very glad I was able to start this thread here.
  6. This thread is not really about EMP, it's about me being IP banned from the MSEFI forums. EMP was just the original topic on MSEFI that caused the whole thing. I am really surprised that folks think even a general discussion of EMP is inappropriate. It's not like I'm talking about explosives here, or any sort of weapon. Rather, I am talking about protecting my vehicle. And I hope you guys don't really think an air burst EMP over America is impossible. I just look at the news, there are several countries that are not at all pleased with the US, and some of these countries already have nuclear arms. There are also thousands, if not tens of thousands, of terrorists who would literally die for a chance to attack the US in this way, though hopefully they will never have the opportunity. I do hope our homeland security department will carry out their job to perfection. I hope you will respect my position, I simply want to be as prepared as I can be so that I can protect my family. Even if you think the chance of such an event is miniscule, you cannot tell me it is impossible. I would also say that I don't appreciate the insinuations that I have some ulterior motive here, that I have some reason to expect an EMP over Dallas. How is this called for? Am I not allowed to ask questions such as this one to better prepare myself for whatever the future might bring? The military has felt that protecting their vehicles from EMP is worth spending millions upon millions of dollars. The same air burst they are preparing for could also knock every vehicle in America out of commission. So if you don't feel that this is a worthy topic for discussion, that is fine, but please don't attack or poo-poo me because I do. I am not discussing any "military secrets" or anything even remotely illegal, why should I be censored? To any mods or admin reading this: I ask you not to delete or lock this post. I am still trying to figure out why I have been banned from MSEFI, and a couple people here have already given me good suggestions and advice. Some may not believe the topic I originally posted about is appropriate, but I do, and it is important to me. I am not breaking any laws or discussing anything illegal, and I don't think I am violating forum rules. I also wanted to say that I haven't received any replies back from either Bruce or Lance, or anyone else from MSEFI.
  7. I think we were all joking. To answer the question about gas: I only need enough to get me the heck out of Dallas. I also have spare fuel on hand if I need to go farther than my tank will take me. When I get a safe distance from the city I will regroup and go from there.
  8. Have any more you would like to sell? haha, I think I need more than paint if I really want to shield my stuff well.
  9. I was thinking more along the lines of wealthy terrorists, Korea, China, or who knows. That movie was pretty funny though about the starter thing. I remember scratching my head on that as well. Besides, I thought his mustang had been wrecked? Was it still driveable? It's been too long since I watched that movie. I don't know that it will be possible, but since I am already planning to do some serious shielding to my wiring harness, I figure why not look into the possibility of EMP protection? Maybe my MS will then be safe from Tom Cruise.
  10. I have assumed that Lance answers emails to megasquirt@msefi.com. I am not even certain Lance is the one who banned me. I simply followed the instructions that appeared on my screen once I was banned. I have no way to find Lance's personal email now that I am banned.
  11. Honestly I just want my vehicle electronics to be protected in the event of an EMP. I have no intention of causing one, but I don't want to be screwed if one does occur. The military does lots of work to shield their electronics, and my vehicle could be exposed to the same EMP as theirs, especially in the event of a high altitude air burst. I would imagine my name and account has been banned as well, but this is a thought. I have a work computer, perhaps I will login using that. If the admin is really having a bad day maybe they will ban that IP as well when I login. I did not think of this. I can't think of a better explanation. Hopefully Bruce or Lance will respond to my emails and let me know what happened. I wish I could log in and access my private message folder. I seem to remember Lance seeming a bit irritated when he responded to my message. I didn't really think anything of it since I hadn't done anything wrong, but maybe I missed something there.
  12. I asked directly about EMP, but a device shielded from EMP would also be well shielded against EMI and RFI. Did you see my thread earlier? I emailed Bruce Bowling just a moment ago as well. I think he should know what is going on with forum management.
  13. I thought about this for a little while. I know that the FCC has rules about the interference electronic devices can receive and produce. I will look into that more, though I am talking about shielding the device against interference, not allowing it to cause interference.
  14. If this is the case, I really wish they would have let me know before banning me completely. From what I understand MSEFI.com is a company site, the actions of the admin and mods represent and reflect B&G to forum members and potential customers.
  15. This is what I get when I pull up msefi.com, or any pages in that domain:
  16. I know it's a strange request, but I have always been curious about what it would take to protect vehicle electronics from EMP, and I was just wondering about how to integrate the normal shielding people do to things like tach signals, etc. with heavier-duty shielding. I don't have many posts here, not many folks know me, but I am not leaving anything out. I have only posted a few times on MSEFI, and I have never said or done anything that could be even remotely considered "breaking the rules". I was very polite in my pm to Lance. If more folks are being treated this way on MSEFI then I would imagine B&G is losing lots of customers. If I am permanently banned I probably won't end up buying the MegaSquirt, simply because I need the information on the forum. There are a couple diagrams I never saved to my computer because I never dreamed I would be banned.
  17. I was wondering if any of you have experienced similar problems with the forums. I posted a question about shielding the MS from electromagnetic pulse in the assembly forum. It was promptly moved to The Pit, a forum for "non MS related topics". I sent a PM to "Lance" asking if my thread could be moved back, noting that my question was definitely "MS-related". Lance responded that my question had nothing to do with the MS, so it would not be moved. I went back and looked at the thread and I realized that I had not phrased it well, I wasn't specifically asking for information about how to protect the MS. I decided to rephrase the question so that it did relate directly to MS, delete my old thread, and post the new thread in "Wiring and sensors". I noticed that there were other threads in this forum specifically about shielding MegaSquirt, but they did not apply to the heavy-duty application I needed. I posted the thread in this forum thinking that this would be just fine, since I was not double-posting a question in two forums and since my question related directly to the MegaSquirt wiring harness. (I was asking about using the MS grounds for shielding or leaving them isolated) Less than 10 minutes later I was IP banned from MSEFI.com. I have to say that I have never been a problem on MSEFI in any way, shape, or form. I am (or was) a relatively new member. It is worrying me that I might be permanently banned from the site. If this is true I will have a very hard time learning what I need to know about MS for my installation on a VG30E which I planned for this winter. I spend many hours on the forums searching and reading. My question is have you guys heard or experience anything like this? Is this a common thing to have happen? I have never been IP banned on any forum before, and I have never heard of someone being reacted against so strongly and suddenly on any forum I have visited. Also, how closely is the MSEFI.com forum tied to B&G? Do they own/operate it? If so, I am pretty surprised and disappointed that their customers are being dealt with like this. I sent an email to megasquirt@msefi.com already but have not heard back.
  18. No that helps! If it's true that the 280Z T5s will not bolt up to a VG30 then I am barking up the wrong tree. There is a guy who has done a similar setup, I have seen pictures of it in his truck. He claims the T5 came out of a 280Z, but he's a truck guy, not a Z guy.
  19. I am in the process of building a Nissan Pathfinder. I know this is a Z forum, but the VG30 is common to us all. I currently have an automatic behind my VG30E, but I am thinking strongly about swapping it out for a T5 out of a 280Z. I would basically be removing the 280Z rear case and bolting a Jeep T5 rear case up to the bellhousing and center plate. This way I could run two transfer cases for ridiculously low gearing and incredible traction and control on the rocks. So, to restate what I'm planning to do; I will have a 280Z bellhousing and internals mated to the rear T5 case from a jeep. I have a few questions: 1. Is the 280Z T5 considered to be strong? What are the weak points? 2. What are the ratios of the 280Z T5 gears? Especially 1st and 5th. 3. Has anyone here rebuilt a 280Z T5? Are there stronger components available to the public? I can't farm out the work, just can't afford to do this, the doubled transfer cases will be very pricey alone. 4. I am in Dallas TX, are there any good sources for 280Z T5s you could point me to? I have talked with two guys who frequent the Nissan section of Pick 'n Pull here and they said they saw no 280Zs at all. 5. The speedo gear, I am assuming the 280Z uses a mechanical one rather than an electronic sender; does anyone have a picture or a description of the fitting? The 4x4 Nissan Pathfinders have the speedo gear driven by the transfer case mainshaft, so I would assume it's spinning at the same speed as the 280Z 5 speed output shaft provided the differential gearing is the same and the speedo gear is the same ratio. Thanks for the help, I've looked around for a little while in this forum for answers but I haven't come up with anything definitive yet.
  20. I am planning to build a set of log style turbo manifolds for my 1990 pathfinder with the VG30E, and I thought this might be a good site to check out. I have searched but I didn't really come up with anything. I do apologize if this is covered elsewhere. I just need the exhaust flanges, I would hate to have to cut them myself if there is already a source for them out there. I need them in mild steel, the thicker the better. Thanks
