  1. the mounts will be for sale through HRS, as for the template i'm not sure if it will be available or not. i'll look into it and let everyone know.
  2. rotate the engine until its at TDC (on the compession stroke) on cylinder one, check the distributor and make sure that it is in-line with the distributor cap on the first cylinder, chances are its going to be off a bit, remove the distributor and install it so that it is lined up correctly. this will cure your problem.
  3. my cousin had a similar problem that was making his car backfire through the carb and had low power, it was caused by the distributor being off by 1 tooth, it got so bad on some days that it wouldn't even start. thats the first place i would look.
  4. Just got back from cutting the new mounts, they should be done tomorrow after i get them all welded up, the measurements are from the bottom of the front sump to the top front corner of the cross member. i know I'm guilty of not getting any pictures up yet, sorry, i just don't have enough time to find all of my camera cables and load them up, i will however try this week to get them posted. I'm hoping i can get the car on the street in time for the upcoming Z meet at Reynolds!
  5. I moved the engine as far back as i could within reason, i had to extend the hole 1" in the trans tunnel to get the shifter out, as for the headers i just used the cheap summit brand block huggers and had to modify the steering with a ujoint and a carrier bearing. i have been told that 80's F150 manifolds fit without modifying the steering, although i nvr tried them. all the fabbing only took about 45-60 minutes...but i did spend alot longer R&Ding. the oil pan from the 86 GT 5.0 is a double sump, and the front sump is about 2.5-5mm off of the crossmember, close but not close enough for concern. as for the jtr adjustable mounts, i was pretty sure they only worked for the SBC, also for the price of the JTR i could make 10 sets of my mounts.
  6. I suppose you might be able to get it covered as a kitcar or exotic. but the monthly quote would be huge! call around and see what qualifies for each of them and put your car in that category...thats what i would do
  7. My insurance company doesn't know about the conversion, and they havent come out to look at it either, they also never found out that my L6 plymouth duster really had a 540hp small block... Your best bet is to find an insurance company that doesnt ask to many questions and just get the most basic insurance on it you can.
  8. Well it seems that the solid mounts were TOO solid, as the car was a nightmare to be in while running, the viabrations were so bad that the rearview mirror fell off...so its back to the drawing board to make a set of mounts that use the stock 280zx mounts, this should remedy the situation at least to the point where we can keep the mirrors on. some good news however the adapter bracket that was fabricated to use the 280zx crossmember to bolt the T-5 up worked great, its just a T shaped piece of 3/16 metal that bolts to the crossmember and then the trans. its a solid peice but i think when its used with the new mounts it will work great.
  9. The mounts are designed to allow the summit block hugger type headers to fit, and as you said they do move the engine toward the passenger side to allow clearance, and a slight weight distribution advantage. another great thing about them is you can use the stock trans cross-member and just use an adapter to get your T-5 to mount up. we should have the mounts completed this evening and i'll have pictures posted very soon.
  10. OK, what would someone be willing to pay for 2 engine mounts and a trans mount? I'm open for suggestions...
  11. HRS is designing solid motor mounts for your 5.0 - 280zx swap the first mounts will be available around the 26th of Feb, the mounts move the engine towards the passenger side and 1 1/2" from the Firewall. engine angles are not yet available, but ground clearance is AWESOME! Steering modification will be needed, but is simple with the addition of a u-joint and carrier bearing in the Steering shaft, pictures will be released AS SOON AS THE MOUNTS ARE AVAILABLE. The trans mount will be available at a later date and will be designed for the T-5 transmission. Cost for the high quality Engine mounts will be around $250.00 with shipping. So how many people are interested out there? P.S. the test mule for this build is a 1979 280zx with PB, Manual Steering, and a 5 speed.
  12. sorry for the large break in posts everyone, been busy, busy, busy with school and have had no time to work on my poor car . however now that there has been a break in school, and the weather has been nice i've picked up where i left off. regreatfully i had to take off the FI, as i was missing a lot of the main componets, and the componets i had retrieved from the car it self where either no good or where damaged when i removed them, like the O2 sensors exploded when i tried to remove them...thanks to all that NYC salt they put on the roads i guess... so now i have a Summit S2 manifold with a 650 vaccum scondary holley on it, should breath bretty good for now, just need to finish the mounts and do some wiring here and there and i'll at least have it running...more to come .
  13. ok, i see what your saying there it does look a little involved, but nothing over the top, ill see if i cant wrestle out the assemblies and do some magic with them, thank you for posting the pictures that makes a big differance
  14. i just found out that i dont have a R200...yup...it's a R180, kinda bums me out a bit...o well...anyway i'm almost ready to put the engine in the car, i need to post the pictures that i have so far before i loss/delete them as far as placememt goes i guess i'm going to put the engine as far back as i need to so the shifter is in a good spot...im thinking about taking a mustang short throw shifter and swaping the handle around 180 so the bend goes the other way...just in case the trans sits too far back...because from what ive seen it just might... for the oil filter i plan on putting a 90 degree relocater from FRPP...it should work...well back to work...thanks for the advice all:cheers:
  15. i've seen ppl use photo bucket for up loading pics I havent ever used it before so...maybe google it?
