I have driven 4 Porsches (never owned, one day), a 996 Turbo, 993 C4S, 968, and a 928GTS, but, I have owned a variety of Z's, 95 300ZXTT(422rwhp), 84 300ZXT, 72 Scarab, 73 turbo, and a well built 73. I agree with most everyone's imressions, but I would say that they are just 2 different kind of cars, and each are great for what they are meant to do, and I have no complaints from any of the Porsches, except that they werent mine! I have to admit though, when I got to drive the 996 turbo, I owned my 95 ZXTT at the time and it felt like a tank when I drove it home that day, which sucked, a lot! Anyway, I am a huge Porsche fan and Z car fan, I would love to have quite a few different models of each please.

If I remember right, I don't think Callaway uses a stock LS1 block, I thought I read somewhere where it was there own kind of tweaked a little like what Saleen did with their S7 and Fords block? I'm still really skeptical about this whole thing, and now hearing that the turbos wont fit I think I'm leaning towards not doing it. I can't wait to get the pics though, hopefully this week sometime. I'll give you a ring later this week, I'm still trying to get a hold of this guy and get some SOLID info on it. I work with his son and we have just been relaying info back and forth. Thanks again to everyone who is contributing, I apprecaite every bit of it! Bo

Correct, I have received a few emails from him, he says he has never ran less than 93 octane, and 90% of the time it had 107(additive aided). I am trying to get out to see it, only problem it is on the East coast and I live in CO. Hopefully I will have some more info by tomorrow, he is supposed to call me and fill me in.

Does this sound right? "The compression was raised to generate more power. You can raise the compression on a turbo motor, but you have to run good gas. The mininum the car will run on is 93 octane. Generally you do lower the compression some when you run a turbo - but that is depending on the amount of boost run, and the fuel you are running. The heads stay on the Vette motor....I took it to Road America a few times and had the turbos glowing (runs Syntec 5-50 motor oil) and if there was a problem...it would have shown up then. I know my father has run it at Road America a few times as well...as well and ran full boost several times."

Hey guys, I have an oportunity to purchase a full car that has been totaled(hit from the rear by a Ford F350 ) for 5g's! Pics coming soon! The owner was fully paid off by the insurance for it and bought it back from salvage for $1000, he was quoted 45K to restore to original. It has a little over 10K miles and supposedly has 690HP to the rear wheels and has Dyno sheets to prove it. Modified from Original: higher compression, differnet blow off valves and wastegates with different ECU programming. Requires a min of '93 octane - usually runs 107. Now if I get this, am I in way over my head for a Z car? First of all, will a LS1 fit w/2 turbos strapped to it? Can a Z handle that amount of power? What kind of structural changes will I have to make and what kind of rear/tranny would I have to get? To me, this sounds like either a steal and/or sham, not sure what to think yet(waiting for pics). I always get screwed so I am leaning towards not doing this, but I still get a knobber every time I think about it! ARR ARRR! If anyone has any good insight please let me know, I am torn! I am trying to break a habbit of wasting $$$ on cars and with my new wife, she will kill me dead if I end up getting the short end of the stick again. Thanks again guys!

A little wheel help please
boholio replied to boholio's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
what, no love from anyone, come on, atleast someone tell me the rims are ugly or yeah, they should work, spend your money! -
I'm looking to update the look of my Z a bit and have read through all the wheel talk so I appologize if I've missed something and we have to re-hash it. Anyways, I'm looking at these: http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/DisplayWheel.jsp?wheelMake=AT+Italia&wheelModel=Flash+Sport&wheelFinish=Bright+Satin+Sil+Paint They have a 5 lug for a Z32 at 16"x7.5" (5x114) with a 40 offset First of all, I want to know if they will fit properly(my Z has flares) with a 5 lug conversion and second what people think of the wheel in general on a Z-Car, or if I should just keep my 18' OZ supperleggera's off of my 95ZTT and throw them on(I think they are too big) or stay with my mags I have now? Here's a pic of my Z if it helps. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1840&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 Thanks all!

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. Now by installing the cam correctly, what exactly could someone do wrong? I am looking into upgrading the distrib to an electronic one and putting a good fuel pump on. I'll definintely keep everyone posted. Thanks again!

Just curious if you ever found out what was the problem? I just got a new Z and it is having almost the exact same issue, it falls flat on its face at 5K in every gear. ARGH!! It has the stock L24 block with E31 head, hot cam, triple webers, headers, etc... and am having no luck trying to cure it. I ended up sending it to a shop that is also having no luck. Any more bits of advice from you smart cats would be very appreciated!

Great Street Tires
boholio replied to RB26powered74zcar's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I would just like to give my kudos to Bridgstone as well, I have set of S03's on a set of 18" OZ Supperleggera's and they have been by far the best tires I have owned! -
Yea, good thoughts! I just went through all the extra parts I got from the car, of course, I have a full dual SU setup all ready to go. Too late, the stock cam is in and will be emission tested today. Thanks for all the help guys! I'll keep you posted as to my results.

Quick ?, how long should it take to swap out a cam on an L24? I am jumping through damned hoops trying to get my car to pass emissions in this wonderful freeking state of CO, and ending up having to swap out my cam to a stock one. Anyway, I'm having a shop do it and it is taking freeking forever! Thanks all!

I have also heard very good things about yours. Which kit of yours are you comparing to AZZC? Could you work up a price for me for a complete set w/braided lines and everything else I will need for the swap? I appreciate it!
