  1. Hey thanks dude! Someone from the forum is actually coming to look at it this weekend. Hopefully it will sell, and this guy sounds like the buyer.
  2. Don't mean to bring back an old thread but tomorrow I'm going to get the Z inspected. I'll be sure to post what my experience was, and whether or not it passes of course
  3. Thanks for all the great info! I'm gonna see if my insurance company will put a mileage limit on the car if I have QQ plates.....Or maybe I could just get it to not get 6 mpg ;D
  4. I was going to get the QQ plates! But this is gonna be my daily, and it seems that you can only drive the car for "exhibition" reasons if you have the QQ plates :C Do you have the QQ plates on your car? Or just the regular flavored ones?
  5. So my Z has been sitting in the garage as I got carbs and a header for it. ( the carbs were FILLED with varnish and the header was cracked.) I'm going to have it inspected in a few weeks and I have no idea what to expect. Is it just an idle test for older cars? I.E. the 260z. Any input or experience would be great. Also anyone who has tricks for passing the test! Thank you Hybrid Z community! -Matt K ... Oh yeah, here's a pic of the car ;D
  6. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to go check everything now. I'll post what i discover
  7. Okay here's some more information that will help. The car was a daily driver into the mid 80's, and remained a heated garage queen into the late 80's. Then the car was taken down for quite some time and was rebuilt. Its got: Round Top SU's (I believe from a 1970 240z) Rubberized Gas tank inside and out Rebuilt engine - the only thing that wasn't done was that the block wasn't boiled. And since I've gotten the car i have replaced/done: New fuel filter New coil New wires New plugs New cap New rotor And the mechanical fuel pump was replaced yesterday. But may have been faulty. Now as for the electric pump being bad, it might well be but (to the best of my knowledge from searching the forums and reading the FSM) it is not necessary for the car to run, or even start. It doesn't kick on until 400rpm, so starting the car is directly reliant on the mech. pump. I haven't confirmed low/no fuel, but the carbs seem to be operational, and the engine can run on starter fluid (but then of course dies after it burns the little amount of starter fluid is depleted.) Any critique, ideas, anything helpful is welcome. Thank you for your time. Matthew K.
  8. So my early production 260z sputtered out and stalled on the way to school about a week ago. After searching the forums and looking in the FSM I was almost positive it was the Mechanical fuel pump that had malfunctioned. So after replacing it today, with an Airtex mechanical fuel pump, the z started up, drove, parked, turned off, and started again and drove. Everything a car should do. Yet after about 10 minutes of driving back from school, I was losing power, and it seemed like the same problem as last time. But the pumps only a few hours old, so I thought perhaps it vapor locked. ....It didn't. I'm not getting fuel to engine again. Even after an hour or two of sitting the car won't start. So I think vapor locking can be ruled out. Is it possible that the mechanical pump is faulty? (again) Any input would be greatly appreciated. -Matthew K.
  9. Thanks for all the great info! yeah I'd be kind of nervous to rev it all the way to 7000, but the idea of it is pretty cool. Are the L-series engines capable of revving that high, while making power that would justify taking it up that high?
  10. So I've been on the forums for a while, but this is my first time posting. I just bought my first Z about a week ago, and have been tuning it up and getting it ready to be my daily driver while I wait for the insurance card to come in the mail. So i have the original sales brochure for the early 260z and it shows a 7000rpm redline, but the tach in my car or shows 6400rpm red line. So after searching on google, various sites, and the forums on hybrid z, I haven't found anything that has made me particularly confident. The pictures are first of the brochure, then the picture in that brochure, and then my tachometer.
