  1. I enjoy fast cars and motorcyles

  2. Just letting everyone know. Been putting some miles on the Z. Runs real well. Gets severe wheel hop in 2nd gear. Gotta do something about that. Still got more work to do. Finish up some details then its to the body shop to get the body work done and a paint job. Thinking of pulling the engine when it goes to paint so the engine compartment can be painted nicely. Lots left to do to make the car nice. ed
  3. Mario if your talking to me I would trade my springs for stock ones. They are on my car in the picture. Let me know. ed
  4. I need a full set. Front and rear with the insulators? Anyone have that? ed
  5. Im looking for stock springs with insulators and all for my 76 280z. Also looking for aftermarket frt air dam/bumper. ed
  6. I tried to use a jtr mount but didnt like the way it fit. I also made one that uses the factory trans tunnel flanges. I was able to get my angles correct like that and did have to depend on floor structure integrity for the trans crossmember. ed
  7. I installed a cable type clutch in my z using the quadrant and firewall adjuster for a fox body mustang. I dont have any good pictures right now but it works good. Only thing was it took several tries at getting the quadrant mounted where the pull was straight and worked good. I'll be honest, I had a race car builder friend of mine help with this. I dont think I could of got it figured out without his help. ed
  8. What did it cost to do the coilover conversion and where did you purchase it? Its hard to find used parts for these cars. ed
  9. Needing some ideas on how to combat rear wheel hop under hard accell. I have searched this but havn't really found any answers. Car has a 331 stroked 5.0 with a T5. I get severe wheel hope especially in 2nd. thanks
  10. I have been told by the previous owner that my 280 has suspension off a 260. I hate how low the car is. I can get some stock 240 springs but wondered if i would have concerns. Im willing to buy stock 280 springs if that what i need to do. I would like to put coilovers on the car but short on money at the time. I need to get the car back up. Im not real concerned with handling as long as its not terrible, planning on drag racing the car. Feel free to tell me what works best. thanks
  11. Just wondering if someone can tell me if springs from a 240z will fit a 76 280z. thanks
  12. Im not really sure whats on the car. I know they are eibach springs but not sure on the series. I will using the car for street and strip so im not real concerns with handling. While i was searching for this i found a draglite wheel post and seems some were using a 240z lowering spring. Maybe im mistaken. I think the spring insulators are no in. Any help would be great. ed
  13. I have a 331 stroker powered 76 280Z and I need help with spring selection. The car has been lowered and i need to get it back up so i can put some larger tires on it. Do i just purchase stock 280 springs? I have searched this some and saw that some are putting 240 lowering springs on. Is this the ticket to set this back to a heighth that i can tuck a pair of draglites maybe 15x8? Thanks in advance. Car runs great but gets horrible wheel hop. Im hoping this will help. ed
  14. Just thought I would post a part number for a heater valve that I put in my 76 280. This valve fits pretty nice using the factory hoses and heater control cable. I did drill a small hole in the actuating arm so I could put the cable on then a small washer and cotter pin to hold the cable on the arm. It is a Murray part number from o'riellys auto parts. I think it fits a Freightliner. Part#74848 its about $43.00 dollars.
  15. I have seen new lifters bleed down in as little as a few days. I wouldnt worry about it much. It is always nice to spin the oil pump and get oil pressure to everything, or at the very least pull off the coil wire and crank the engine over a little before making it start.
  16. I will get the wheel sizes when the weather is better and I have some time.
  17. Cars coming along good. I had exhaust put on today. Real happy with how it sounds and how it looks. I have the dash out of the car and all new stewart warner white face gauges installed. Silent had starter the gauge install. Looks nice. Gotta get the dash back in it next time I have some time to work on it. Little more wiring to clean up. I also have a new heater core for the car. Looks like a total pain in the azz. The streets were dry when I drove it to the exhaust shop. Car seems real quick. Gotta do some tuning and get the car the rest of the way together. Cant wait till spring. Paint and body next.
  18. Your not supposed to run the car down. It is a couple different colors of blue. No problem I have a body shop friend to take care of that too. ed
  19. Im not sure on the dimensions. I will get them for ya when the weather clears. They are 16's
  20. I just backed it out of the garage for pics. I have made a real post of my build yet. I just havnt had the time to do a good job of writing it out yet. Maybe when its done I will take the time and make a nice post. When i have some time I will post the engine combo. I really like 331 stroker combos. I have another 331 in my 92 Mustang and love the thing. The short version of the Z combo is 331 with all forged internals, custom grind camshaft from Ford Performance Solutions. 10.5 to 1 compression , victor jr with 750 hp series Holley. Pro Comp aluminum heads (cheap heads but I got a deal on them so I used em) I did have lots of work done to the heads to make them perform better, also had .30 taken of the heads for more compression. All valve work and the .30 off the heads was per Ford Performance. I have Trick Flow heads done by Foxlake on my mustang but I wanted to go somewhat budget on this one and I had the pro comps. Im also a big believer in custom grind camshafts. I also put one in the mustang. I think this combo should perform pretty well and I can always change the heads later if I need to. I think it will be fast enough to be fun. I also have a NOS kit for the car if needed. ed
  21. Okay I just talked to the guy. He claims to be a datsun Z person. He said this is a competition datsun rear and that it is a H190. He said all the competition rear ends from datsun were H rears and he never heard of a R190. So who knows. He says this thing was from a race guy that only raced Z cars. I have looked at it put not close. I do know it didnt look like anything special but it did seem to be a locker type rear. Just a quick question. I noticed when my 280 is on jack stands and i turn the right rear tire it doesnt turn anything. Driveshaft doesnt turn and it doesnt turn the other wheel. I also tried to see what the gear ratio was by counting the driveshaft revolutions with one full revolution of the tire. It did not work. I have done this with ford 8.8 rears all the time. All of this is what made me wonder if my R200 was hurt.
  22. Guy told me it was a H190. It must me a R190. It looked like my R200 he said it was a comp. rear end from datsun with a locker.
  23. I know a guy that has a H190 rear diff. Can anyone tell me what this might be worth and is it a bolt in for a 76 280z? Thanks ed bettis
