  1. I have lots of room between the engine and the hood scoop. The air cleaner is below the original hood at the rear. And yes the car is going in for paint and body work this winter after I get some more things fabed up. Still lots to do. I did start the engine today. Sounds mean. Only ran it for 15-20 seconds due to no radiator yet. Anyway more to come. Air cleaner is a drop base unit.

  2. I sprayed my stock block 175 hp for 3-4 years in a 3400 lb. car Never had a concern. That engine is in a buddies car and without a concern still being sprayed. Had 110,000 miles on it when I took it out for a stroker. Never been rebuilt or bearinged. Still runnin hard.

  3. Its not the headers that are creating the steering shaft concern. Its the crossmember I used. Its the one that was being sold by a member on here. Im not totally happy with it and will probably modify it before its done. I really want to put the engine more towards the pass side so the driveshaft isnt in a bad angle. Everything is just sitting in the engine bay right now no holes drilled and the crossmember isnt bolted to the frame yet. Is your crossmember a modified one like I have or did you make it yourself.

  4. Do you have issues with driveline vibration when accellerating hard? How about u joint wear? I think Im gonna take the car to a friends race shop and have him help me with this. I want the car right. I plan on doing a little drag racing with this car and dont want to throw the driveshaft thru it. What engine crossmember did you use? Do you what the length of your driveshaft is? Mine looks like it will be in the 24" range. Im not sure with that short of a driveshaft if the u joints will like my angles without moving things. Where are your corner weights listed? Thanks and sorry for so many questions.

  5. Before people start screaming to use the search option. I have read so much info on this that I am totally confused. Here is the problem I am having. I purchased the engine crossmember from the guy on here that was making them. I have the engine and trans in the car but not bolted up yet. 331 with a T5. I was under the car today just looking at the driveline placement and noticed that my engine and trans is dead centered in the frame rails. This puts the rear of the trans out of line with the pinion of the diff. Looks like the original drivetrain placement more to the pass.side of the car. My shifter also is oh course over to the drivers side. What should I do here? I guess I could remove the engine crossmember and have to fabed different to help with the problem but Im not sure I can move the engine over enough. Is anyone else using this mount? Any help would be great. I would love to get this thing together but I do want it right.

    thanks

  6. I have searched some of this and it seems all the post that have pictures are so outdated that the links are no good. I am getting ready to drop the engine in my 280 and need some advice. I am pretty new here but if anyone that has performed this using the crossmember sold by one of the members here I would love to talk to them. Thanks in advance for any help.

  7. Looks like you have got everything handled on your project. Just got my sons Mustang done. Runs great. Having the car dyno'd tuned the 27th. I will let you know what kind of power it makes. It has a aod trans with a 3,000 stall so i dont expect the hp numbers to be to high on the dyno but it runs great. People have asked about the SSI intake. I will let you know how it performs on the dyno. I would not recommend it over a ford part just due to the pain in the arse assemble work. No really big deal but as expected you have to modify things to use it. Pisses me off to have to fabricate on a 700.00 dollar part. Anyway. I have the 331 ready except for a couple things to go into the Z. Cant wait to have it running. Were you able to use your ford alternator? I think Im gonna try to make my clutch cable operated. We will see. Dont baby that clutch.

  8. Im not that sloppy with rtv. Thats masking tape, that was just a mock up of the intake with the ports taped up on the heads. Its all on the engine now just waiting for the brackets to come back from the powder coater. Hope to be finsihed with this project this in a week so I can start on the engine install in the Z. Thanks for the compliments. Should be a wicked runnin car.

  9. I would just mount the fan slight off center then. Shouldnt cause a concern. Just noticed something in your picture. You are running the waterpump pulley on the backside of the belt right? I can see where the belt has run on the grooved side before. This has probably been adressed before. Gotta run a late model pump on the backside of the belt so it will turn the correct direction. My 331 is ready to go into the Z. Gotta get my sons GT completed first. Its near starting just waiting on a new flex plate. Got sent a 157 tooth one and need a 164 tooth. I will let ya know how the SSI intake works out. It is more of a pain to assemble then other intakes thats for sure. I will have my son post some pics of the job on his car too.

  10. I know people are gonna call bullshit on this but its the truth. I sprayed my original 5.0 175 shot for 3 years. Ran the car at the track everyweek. The engine had over 100,000 miles. I never had a single problem. I sold that engine to a friend and he has been spraying the thing for at least 3 yrs. That is the honest truth. I drove this car daily with no concerns. During that time I had a trailer hitch on the back of my car and pulled a pop up trailer over a thousand miles on a family trip. No oil usage and the car always ran great. Just my experience. Just gotta be smart about using it. I feel the same as you. Even if my car ran 10 flat on the engine I would spay it into the 9s.
